Question about Projection Televisions

2 Answers

RCA 50 Purchased tv new at Walmart in 12/07. TV started turning off and on in March and completely stopped working. Have been trying to get replacement lamp since April; as of 6/17 I was advised by RCA that they had no idea when lamp might be available. Have spoken to half a dozen people in Customer Service with no solution. They claim I have no proof of purchase since the thermal printer receipt has faded so badly it is almost illegible. I faxed a copy of registration I mailed in December and a copy of my credit card showing the charge. Walmart cannot provide a duplicate receipt because they only keep them 90 days; the mgr handwrote a receipt and customer service will not accept. I told them to call the Walmart number printed on the handwritten receipt since they accused me of writing the receipt. I'm not trying to cheat anyone - I feel like RCA doesn't care. I've been hung up on 3 times even though I am not rude. PLEASE HELP!! Eloise Cruz 916-371-7525

What they did to you is really not good sorry for what happen there, since they don't want to replace the lamp for you better just purchased it to the manufacturer itself pretty sure they have it here is the price for each manufacturer hope your brand is listed here Sony $199-$299
LG $299
JVC $249-$399
Toshiba $199
Samsung $349
Sharp $429-$529
RCA $414-$483
Mitsubishi $499
AKIA $299

Here are the generic way on how to change replace the lamp:

Each owner's manual for a rear projection TV comes with instructions on how to replace the lamp. Here are the typical steps for replacing a lamp.

  1. Turn your TV off. Let it sit there for about 5 minutes to let the cooling fan help cool the lamp.
  2. Unplug your TV from the power let it sit about another 30 minutes. Even with the TV turned off power is still going to the lamp and the lamp receptacle can still be hot enough to burn you. Even if you think that the lamp is cool I recommend that you do not touch the receptacle.
  3. Usually the lamp has a cover that you will need to unscrew. Most manufactures use a Philips head screw for holding the cover shut. Unscrew the lamp cover.
  4. Unpackage the replacement lamp. Be careful not to tough the glass, as oil from your fingers can damage the lamp's surface.
  5. Pull the lamp out. Most lamps have a plastic tab or hoop on the handle that you can use to pull it out. Follow the owners manual for specific instructions on how to pull the lamp out. Make sure you do not touch the surrounding lamp housing if you just turned off the TV. It can burn you if it is hot.
  6. After the lamp has cooled, place it into the empty box of the replacement lamp. Never put the used lamp into a plastic bag.
  7. Using the guiding post also called "gutters" by some manufactures slide the lamp replacement lamp in pushing it until you hear a firm click.
  8. Screw the lamp cover back in.
Hope it helps you.........

First thing you will want to do is file a Better Business Bureau complaint. That is ridiculous that you payed by credit card and they don't have it. If you bought it at Circuit City with your credit card, It is saved for at least a year I know that. You also need to call the corporate office at Wal-Mart and let them know about this and how disgruntled you are. That makes me so angry I wish it was me so I could get on the phone and get something done about it.
They are just trying to get out of fixing their garbage product. Thats why I stick with sony, hitachi, and panasonic.
keep me posted if you need more assistance.
Thanks,
Lee

Buzzing is usually indicating the color wheel is defective. Or it could also be the lamp fan malfunctioning as well. My quess would be the color wheel as thats a fast moving part which is prone for bearing failure.
