1) The remote is not communicating with any of the functions on the receiver. The volume is not working. When I press any button on the Use Mode red light comes on. 2) Also when it is functioning, the off/on button doesn't work. It does sometimes only if I press it very hard

I can give you several tips to try and see if we can get it going. First make sure you have the correct devise selected with the remote. For example if you are using it for the tv, make sure you have pushed the tv button on the remote first, and so on for all the other functions for your reciever. If this is not the problem try changing the batteries and make sure they are in correctly. Weak batteries will allow the red light to light up on the remote but it doesn't have the power to send the signal to the reciever. the other option is that the remote is simply wearing out, or has some type of dirt insde it not allowing the buttons to make contact with the metal strips inside the remote. You can sometimes find a store like Radio Shack that will be able to check and see if the remote is acdtually sending a signal, try calling around and see if someone has one of these detectors. If none of these help, try getting one of the universal remotes from a department store, they work with just about any brand of electronics and are much cheaper that a new remote. Here are a few links to sites that carry almost all brands of remotes in case you need a new one.
I hope this helped.

DISH VIP612 Amplifier Control

DISH Solo DVR VIP612 Amplifier / Receiver Control

7c06801.jpg

Would you like to program the Universal Remote that came with your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 to control the volume of your receiver, tuner, or stereo instead of your TV's volume?

e818a57.jpg

The first step in using the Universal Remote Control that came with your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 to control the volume level of your receiver, tuner, or stereo is to program the remote to control your audio device using the AUX mode button.

Once your remote controls your audio device in AUX mode, you probably want to continue to control the volume of your stereo even if the remote is in SAT, TV or VCR mode.

To setup your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote to control the volume of your stereo regardless of which mode it is in, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the AUX button until all the mode buttons are lit, and then let it go.
  2. Press the POUND (#) button.
  3. Press the PLUS side of the VOLUME button.
  4. Press 0.
  5. Press the POUND (#) button. The AUX button flashes three times to tell you the programming is complete.
  6. Confirm the VOLUME buttons are operating the tuner/amplifier's volume control by pressing SAT or TV, and then adjusting the volume. Your tuner/amplifier's volume should change rather than your TV's volume.

Your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote is now setup to control the volume of your stereo regardless of which mode it is in

I hope that helps.

Hello, the most used buttons can wear out over time. On/standby and volume are the ones that are used most often. I suggest purchasing a new remote. It is available at shoponkyo.com. Thank you, Onkyo USA

My control doesnt work..it has new batteries in it but the only thing that it will do is raise the volume nothing else..what is wrong with it?

Hi, my name is Cheri Torres with DISH Network customer service. I came across your post and wanted to see if I could help. If you remote is not functioning anything besides the volume and you have already replaced the batteries your remote may need to be readdressed or put back in to SAT mode. You can first try to press the SAT mode to insure that it is in the correct mode to control the satellite functions. If it is in sat mode you will then need to try and readdress your remote to the DISH Network receiver box. I will list the instructions here for you on readdressing your remote. I hope you find this information useful. If you have any further questions or concerns feel free to post back here or email me at [email protected].

Instructions for readdressing your remote to receiver box.

  1. Go to System Info scree. You can enter the system info by pressing system info on the front of the receiver box or you can press the power button once and then the channel up button once on the front of the receiver. You may need to open the little door on the front right side of the receiver box in order to locate the buttons. If both options do not work you may have to open the door on the front left side of the receiver and pull out the smart card.
  2. Once you are in system info you will see primary remote address (TV1) and secondary remote address (TV2). Locate the number that is in the white square.
  3. Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
  4. Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.Change to a different number then what is listed in the white square.
  5. Press the pound (#) button
  6. Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record. Note: If successful the number selected in step 3 will appear in the System Info screen under Remote Address.

No communication between receiver and remote

amandaharwoo,

The first thing I would do, if you haven't already, is replace the batteries in the remote. The lights will still illuminate if the batteries are low but won't perform the remote functions. If that doesn't fix the problem, the remote may need to be readdressed to the receiver. I have provided the steps below. If you have further problems, please respond to the site.

  • Remote: All Other Remotes
    1. Go to System Info screen
    2. Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
    3. Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.
    4. Press the pound (#) button
    5. Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record. Note: If successful the number selected in step 3 will appear in the System Info screen under Remote Address.

We have to hold the remote control button hard and straight at the reciever for ti to work

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.
