Key Broke for Ignition Need to Bypass until I can Get parts Any Ideas?

Any GM dealer would have been able to cut you a new key from your VIN number and with proof of ownership, but now you will have to spend as much money to bypass the PASSLOCK system as it will be to replace the lock cylinder and key.

Spend the money and don't lose them again.

You have two choices, you can purchase a new ignition lock cylinder (costs between 150-200 at most any part store) and take it to a lock smith with your original key to have the pins changed to where your key operates the new lock cylinder. And then have it changed out. Or you can take your car to a mobile audio store that installs aftermarket remote start systems and have them bypass the PassLock anti theft system. Cost should be about the same either way, may be just a but cheaper for the bypass, but then your car will be more vulnerable. If the PassLock had been bypassed when they attempted to steal it, it might be gone right now.

It is not easily done, and at a moment's notice it is not done at all.

This car key has the VATS security chip in it. These keys are at least 100 bucks. You can rip into the ignition part and start the car with the wires, but it wont work untill you bypass the SECURITY system. Here is a link about the security. The Problem is your VATS security system. I just fixed this in my 96 regal 3 days ago. You can go the cheap way, and bypass the key. (link #1) or spend 200 bucks and rip that whole garbage system out of your car. (link 2) I bypassed my key, worked for about a year till the computer part started failing. then i just did a full rip out.

your going to need to replace the igniton or the electrical switch part in the back of switch may have broke apart and jammed it,take it apart and seeif the key turns once the switch part is off the key part,(electric ignition switch is removed from the cylinder lock).

call a lock smith

if ignition turns turn it insert a pin or similar object into hole in botom of ignition and remove it

once removed take to lock smith have key removed and re cut
if it doesnt turn call lock smith and have them remove it and repair it lock smith will charge 100- 150 with mobile

dealer wont do mobile so tow 50 bucks then dealer charges 175 - 250 to remove and replace ignition

sounds like stuck pins

insert key tap the end of key with malet untill it turns
once it turns drive to lock smith have them remove and repair the ignition cost will be 50 - 75 bucks verses dealer at 200 bucks

You may get it out using a pick, or a paperclip with a very small bend on the end. If you can't get it to come out from there, you may need to replace the ignition tumbler. Let me know, and I'll give you the steps if necessary.
