For no reason, after 8 months of use, one day the TV just lost the sound. Checked the mute, stereo button...TV is not hooked to any dvd or box. All channels lost the sound.

I have exactly the same problem. In fact, even while watching an HD channel (with sound), a commercial that was apparently non-HD came on and there was no sound. As soon as the HD program returned, sound resumed.

    Anyone?

    Hi,

I have the same problem. Cable guy (Comcast) tried using the HDMI cable which gives an awesome picture and there was no sound on the non-HD stations. He then hooked up the HD coax which gave a less than awesome picture but did provide sound on all channels. Finally, attached two different cables and I have to change the output from TV to HDMI in order to have sound on both. He thinks it's the cable box..not up to date. It could be the tv. Did you ever get a solution?

I am having the same problem. My comcast guy tried two different boxes and it was the same with both. He thought it was the TV so I brought the first set back to Best Buy and exchanged it for a different one, but this one still doesn't work. I am beyond frustrated. If anyone has ideas please post!

I had the exact same problem on a brand new Insignia 26 " LCD with DVD. Comcast tech was able to fix it by changing the Comcast box diagnostics. Here is what he did. Using the Comcast remote with the TV on - press power, cable, menu in that order. A comcast diagnostic srceen will appear. Select Additional HDMI options, then audio options. Change the audio options to L-PCM. Press power again to exit the diagnostics. That will fix it and you get to use the HDMI cable.

Okay,
I was having the same problem as well as the others. I had initally hooked my t.v. up with a HDMI cable, which made the picture look great, but resulted in no audio on non-HD channels. After repeated calls to Comcast, BestBuy, and the Geek Squad, I finally was directed to call insignia which I did. The woman there told that HDMI would only support HD channels, and not Non-HD channels. She told me to try componet cables (red, white, yellow, green, and blue) from my Comcast box and the TV. I went to Comcast & they gave me the cables for free. I took them home, hooked them up, and the TV now works great with audio on all channels.

The back of the TV has it listed as "input," and that is the menu option to choose to view channels on this input.

Hope this helps

Pixilization on non hd channels with hdmi cable connected to HDPVR receive. HD channels come in crystal clear, non hd channels are all bitmapped and horrible

Your TV is not at fault, it is showing you the difference between HD and non HD channels. HD TV's work great with HD scorces but don't usually look that great with standard definition, Also the non-HD channels are more likely to be heavily compressed which makes them look bad too.

No Non-Hd sound

In a nutshell, there is no solution to this problem. The new Insignia TVs have a compatibilty issue with certain HDMI connections. The best thing is to return the TV and purchase another brand. I bought the LG w/built-in DVD and everything works great.

No Non-Hd sound

Best Buy owns some of the brands it sells. Best Buy currently has five private labels which include Insignia, Dynex, Init, Geek Squad, and Rocketfish. Insignia focuses on electronic equipment, including televisions, monitors, car stereos, home theater systems, and portable video and audio players.

The Best Buy televisions are made with substandard components. They are not produced with the same standard the orginal manufacture items.

With the factor of substandard pieces and flash/firmware glitches; it sound like you have a software problem.

I would contact the manufacture ASAP and have a field tech come by to update your television.

Picture issues

Greetings caesar975,

Unfortunately if you chose to view the non HD channels in wide screen format, you are going to have the top and bottom of the screen cut off. Eventually this will not be a problem when everything goes to digital. However presently non HD channels are presented in 3:2 ratio where as HD is 16:9, So your choice really is to view them with the lines on either side for now.

I do not have an answer for the white flickering lines.

To get the BEST picture out of your 1080p unit I highly recommend using HDMI cables to hook it up.

I hope some of this helps.

Sincerely,

Dorothy
