You do not need to dismantle to base, you have some star screws under the battary and one either side that loosens the small panel near the screen (where the power button is). The screen cover has screws under the plastic covers then just unclips, be gentle. after that it is self evident

SOURCE: removing the LCD from a Compaq CQ60-215DX
I have a CQ60-220US HP Compaq and access to the LCD screen was different than others I have disassembled and replaced the display. The bezel is snapped on, the lid does not lay back flat to access the two hinge screws, but there are 2 screws with rubber covers down by the hinges, not all the way around.
I used a right angle phillips screw driver and was able to remove the bottom screws, popped off the bezel the remainder of the way around the screen, it is different, but don't be fooled there are a few screws just not the amount you might be used to, and then gaining access to one of the hinge screws on each side can be an issue as the lid did not lay back flat, but with a good right angle screw driver you can get it done, I did. I am not sure if the proper method is to not just remove the entire top cover and hinges, but the right angle screw driver and finding that this model had only a couple bezel screws made it much easier to tackle.

You simply need to replace the screen, and or backlight, it is a relatively easy job, as long as you get a service manual. I usually get my screens from eBay, or similar.

Above is a link for the service manual
~To download the manufacturers and
therefore correct drivers
or specific software;
Always get your drivers
from the manufacturer of your Laptop, Notebook or Desktop.
If you were to log on to the hp.com
web site, usually one is able to download if
available, by model number,
All available Driver
downloads
as required.
If the driver is not
available, perhaps your manufacturer does not support the OS you are
installing.
This is the best way of ensuring up to
date drivers for your system and they are free of charge!
There
are no XP drivers to be found with Microsoft as XP is no longer
supported.
Some
manufacturers may have a limited number of Drivers still listed.
I hope this helps.
