Question about Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Graphic Calculator

1 Answer

TI-84 Plus silver edition sin/cos/tan

The sin/cos/tan normally without second key is fine but when the second key (the one above the alpha) key is pressed onto sin/cos/tan should pop up the same but with the negative one power but that does not happen - it says arc - sin/cos/tan. What should I do?

For function = (sin,cos,tan,sec,cosec,cotan)
arc(function) = function^-1, calculated in the first quadrant for simplicity(0-pi/2) (0-90deg), as all functions repeat circularly
just another method of notation

How do i get inv on my TI-84 Plus caculator

To get the inverse trigonometric functions press the 2nd key then the trig function key. If you'll look at the key legends above the SIN, COS, and TAN keys you'll see the standard math notations for their inverse function.

I can not find the arc key or the INV key

The INV key that you may find on some scientific calculators has, on the TI 83/84/ Plus calculators, an equivalent key marked [2nd].

On the TI83/84 Plus, each trigonometric function has a second marking [SIN^-1], [COS^-1] or [TAN^-1]. To calculate the inverses of trigonometric functions ( arc sine, arc cosine, arc tangent) you press [2nd] followed by the relevant trigonometric function key For example, [2nd] [SIN] displays sin^-1( on the command line.

Unfortunately the hyperbolic functions and their inverses are only accessed through the CATALOG. You press [2nd][0] to open the CATALOG. Then you scroll down the CATALOG list to reach cosh(, cosh^-(, sinh(, sinh^-1(, tanh(, or tanh^-1(.
To speed the search in the catalog, you use the ALPHA keyboard: To reach cosh(, press[PRGM] and you scroll down from there.

How do i work out the Sin, Cos, and Tan on the TI-83 plus?

First, make sure you have the appropriate angular mode set. To change the angular mode, press MODE, use the arrow keys to highlight either "RADIAN" or "DEGREE" on the third line, press ENTER, then press 2ND [QUIT].

Press the appropriate sin, cos, or tan key (two rows above the 7, 8, and 9 keys), enter the angle, close the parenthesis, and press ENTER. For example, to calculate the sin of 2.1, press
SIN 2 . 1 ) ENTER

Any sin, cos, or tan function problem always gives the incorrect answer. I can use my TI 55 that is 30 years old and get the correct answer, but my son's TI84 plus silver edition is incapable of giving the...

Make sure you have the proper angular mode set. The TI-84 can work with degrees or radians.

Press MODE to bring up the mode screen. Use the arrow keys to highlight either "Radian" or "Degree" on the third line and press ENTER. Press 2ND [QUIT] to exit the mode screen.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post giving an example of a calculation and the answer you're getting from the calculator.

I dont know how to enter in a degree and get its COS, TAN, SIN ect.. Can anyone help me out with this.

Press the SIN, COS, or TAN key, type in the angle, and press ENTER. For example, to calculate the sine of 45 degrees, press SIN 4 5 ENTER

Make sure you have the angular mode set to degrees. It's the third line on the mode screen, which you get by pressing the MODE key.

I have a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition calculator and I need to find the inverse key to get values for sin, cos, tan, csc, sec, cot. I'm past the lesson where you use the 2nd/sin, cos tan to find the...

There are no keys for cosecant, secant, and cotangent. You can calculate those ratios as

csc(x) = 1/sin(x)

sec(x) = 1/cos(x)

cot(x) = 1/tan(x)

Simply calculate the trig ratio on the right and then take its reciprocal.

How do I put cosecant, secant, and cotangent functions into my ti-84 plus?

By definition
  1. cosecant of X =1/sin(X), must not be confused with arc sine [sin^-1]
  2. secant of X =1/cos(X), must not be confused with arc cosine [cos^-1]
  3. cotangent of X =1/tan(X), must not be confused with arc tangent [tan^-1]
Because of these simple relations, calculator makers do not implement them with specific key sequences.
On this calculator, you have two ways to calculate one of these functions. EX cosecant of 37 degrees
  1. You enter 1 / [sin] 37 [ ) ] [ENTER] result is 1.661640141
  2. You enter [sin] [ ) ] 37 [ENTER] followed by [X^-1] to take the reciprocal of the previous answer. The [X^-1] key is the one just below [MATH].
A word of caution: secant cosecant and cotangent must not be confused with the inverse trigonometric functions arcsin, arccos, arctan

Comma key on TI-84 Plus Siver Edition calculator.

The comma key on the TI 84 SE is above the 7 key, and it is just left of (, right of x squared, and below SIN. thats where the "," key is. If you're asking something else, please clearify. My understanding is that you don't know where the comma key is.
