Question about HP Pavilion dv9205us Notebook

Internet Problems Thanks for responding. The only thing I get is "internet cannot be accessed". The indicator light on my laptop doesn't chang when I move the switch.

This actually is a recall fix for pavilion laptops. Contact HP. You'll need to check with them to see if your particular model is in need of a BIOS upgrade.

The upgrade forces the fan to run constantly in order to cool the WiFi card which over heats and stops working.

I had this same problem and saw the recall on the internet and recieved a note from HP on the subject as well. It works fine now.

Hello

Please check whether your notebook Wireless Adapter is detected in the Device Manager.

Click start and in the start search box type Device Manager and press enter.

Then click on + sign next to network adapters and check whether Broadcom/intel Prowireless adapter listed under network adapters.

If it is listed in the Device Manager, then check whether you are able to ping to network.

Click start and in the start search box type cmd and press enter

This will open command prompt ( black window ) . There type ping and give one space and type 127.0.0.1 and press enter. Check whether you are receiving reply and no packet should lost. I mean lost packet should be 0.

If it is pinging to the network then the issue is with the Internet explorer. If it is not pinging or Wireless adapter is not listed in the Device Manger. Then I suspect that the issue is with the Wireless Adapter. However, to isolate the issue please install BIOS update and restart the notebook . To provide you BIOS update I need your notebook product number.

The first thing you should do is a proper 'powercycle' for all of your internet equipment.

To do this:

1) Unplug the power to your modem and your router, and power off your computer.
2) Wait a full minute.
3) Plug the power back in to JUST the modem.
4) Wait some more - for the modem to fully connect to your ISP, and the lights to indicate. If you're not sure, just wait about 2-3 minutes.
5) Plug the power back into the router.
6) Wait another minute or two for the router to finish connecting.
7) Then turn the computer back on.

You can bypass the computer turning on and off if you can repair your wireless connection.

If this doesn't work, there is a pinhole sized reset button on the router itself that you will need a toothpick or somesuch to press - press and hold the button for 5 seconds, and then try the steps above again. If you do this, the network id and password will be reset to the default, just like it was when you bought it.

Hi there, Before we start, try hooking your laptop up directly to the modem - if you're not getting an internet connection there, call your Internet Service Provider. If you are, then follow the steps below.
1) Make sure that you're not using more than one router at the same time. One router should be hooked up directly to your modem in the WAN port. If you have wireless security enabled, go to step 2 2) As a test, remove the security on your wireless network and then see if you can access the internet properly. The router can be accessed by typing it its address in internet explorer, as long as you are connected to the router. Generally the address is 192.168.1.1 3) If you still can't access the internet, go to Internet Explorer Options, the Connections tab, LAN settings, and make sure "use a proxy server" is NOT checked. 4) If you DO get an internet connection now, go back to your router and enable WPA security (some older laptops have problems with WPA2 connections).

Please verify what problems you are having. what operating system are you using, and what internet browser are you using to access Facebook? (Ie. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox... etc.)

Look below your arrow keys, near the bottom edge of the computer. There's a wireless indicator there, and on the edge itself there is a switch. You might have turned it off accidentally.

The router could be crapping out on you. Hit the reset button and see if that solves the problem. If that don't work uninstall then reinstall the system. If the problem remains contact your internet provider to see if it is on their end. If all else fails buy a new wireless system!
