Changing light bulb on viking designer 1

This is so simple, someone MUST have the answer. Both light bulbs have burned out and I bought replacements. I can't even remove the one right next to the needle, so I will worry about that another day. The main one under the shield came right out, but when I put in the replacement bulb, it still doesn't work. Since I was wise enough to buy more than one, I tried another one to see if I didn't just have a bad bulb. That one didn't work either. My sewing machine repair shop is closed due to a flood. Is there a fuse to replace or some other simple solution? I'm in the dark here (literally).

When one faulty, both do not work. replace faulty one & both will then work.

The Rest of the Story:

I finally took my Designer 1 to a repair shop. Evidentally the connection was loose on one bulb and the other bulb was broken off and that was why I couldn't get it out. Thanks for solution suggestions. I feel better knowing that I couldn't have fixed myself anyway. That is why God invented repair shops.

SOURCE: Husqvarna Viking Designer I breaking needles

Dls8864's suggestion was a very good suggestion - make sure the metal stitch plate is pushed all the way to the back. Also make sure that the thread is feeding freely - if it is catching on something it can cause the needle to be pulled aside and make it break. Does the design fit properly inside the hoop you are using? If the foot and/or needle strike against the side of the hoop, that will cause a breakage. Is the bobbin thread okay - not making a bird's nest underneath?

How to remove light bulb cover Viking #1+

look on the left side of the machine and see if you see a little round plastic circle, very very carefully use a screw driver to pry it out , there should be a screw to unscrew and the side should come off so you can replace the bulb. if you will send me a comment with the complete name and model number, I'll see if I can find you a manual.

New designer I light doesn't work

The Designer 1 has 2 lights - one close to the needle and another in the throat of the machine. If either light is blown out, neither will work. You should be able to replace the lights yourself but getting it out of the machine can be frustrating. Instructions are included in the owner's manual. If you cannot find the owner's manual you can go to the Viking website at and click on the link 'Machine Updates' at the bottom of the page (right hand side). Then select All Machines, and then select Designer 1. You will be taken to a page that will allow you to download the Owner's Manual.

I have a Viking 6440 (36 years old), and the original light bulb has burned out. I can't get the bulb out! Any suggestions?

Hi anon3...
Spray a little wd-40 on the socket and tap the outside of the socket...wait about a half an hour and try to unscrew it...if that does not work keep screwing the bulb out until you twist the bulb out of the socket...then take a pair of need nose pliers and grab the edge of the bulb and twist it toward the center do the a few times around the outside of the bulb
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

How do I replace the light bulb on my husquevarna viking #1 sewing machine?

For the one light bulb that is located over the free arm. Put your finger nails on the back edge of the light cover and pull slightly forward and downward, and the cover will come off. You can then pull the bulb straight out. For the light bulb over the needle area. You must pull the light cover straight down toward the pressure foot to get access to the bulb.

I have no light. I have replaced the light bulb and still no light.

What model machine do you have? If it is a Designer 1, then if one lightbulb is out the other will not work either - you need to replace both of them. Sorry, it's a horrid job but there's no way around it. The good news is that they can be sourced very cheaply from an auto spares shop. They are the same bulbs as used in car indicator lights, I believe, and are sold at much less cost than a sewing machine shop will charge. Just be sure to get the correct voltage - take in the bulbs from your machine with you when you go shopping for them.

I can't find a button to turn on the light on my Designer 1

There is no button to turn on the light. When the machine is turned on, the lights come on. If they are not working it means that one of the bulbs needs replacing. If one bulb blows, neither light works. The bulbs are readily available from auto spare parts shops. See page 110 of your manual for instructions on how to replace the bulb.

The light on my Viking Design I won't turn on. The light bulb has been changed and still nothing. I have taken my machine to my local repair man and he can't find the problem.

There are two lights on the machine, 1 over the needle and one in the center of the arm. If either light is bad the other will not work so make sure you have 2 good bulbs.
