Error 161 & 163 on ibm aptiva 2168-m62

try this one:

Errors 161, 192, 163.
All three of these errors are connected to the back up
battery.
To resolve this problem:
1. open memory flap on base of laptop (small philips
screwdriver required)
2. find the small connector with 1 black & 1 red wire
coming from it.
3. disconnect above connector and gently pull the
Red&black wires. The backup battery should just pull out
from under the casing.
4. get replacement battery. Either
a. call IBM spares (07900 247 490 in UK) and ask for FRU:
02K6502. UK price is about £8 + £15 delivery + VAT.
b. if comfortable with soldering iron: Carefully open the
packaging on the backup battery using a sharp knife.
Remove the solder tags from the battery (these are spot
welded so need to be cut/broken off). Buy a new CR2025
battery from any computer shop, jeweler, or camera shop.
Using electrical tape, insulate all round edge of battery
(see the one just removed). Solder the leads onto the new
battery - note polarity. Red wire to +, black wire to -.
Using more insulating tape, wrap battery so that all
exposed metal is covered.
5. put new battery into laptop (reverse steps 1-3)
6. start up computer, error 192 has gone, but still shows
161, 163. Select OK.
7. reset date & time, and OK
8. when screen shows 'O / I' restart laptop using on/off
switch at side.

Fan and power light work but no monitor.

Check your RaM card reseat or clean it with soft eraser only its edge connector both side. If this unit is a laptop then disconnect first the battery and disconnect any other power source to it, before you do cleaning or reseating of the card. This is a memory fault if not try to install spare good RAM.

Black screen Help!!!!!!!!!!

Most likeley a motherboard failure. I have alot of HPs at work that do this. The connector for the hard drive on the mother board fails and it will do this.

If thers any kind of warranty, I would contact the manufactuirer first.

Asuming though that it isnt, then I would say, try to find a spare parts one online for cheap that has a good MOBO and change it out.

If you remove the Hard drive and try booting wihtout the Hard drive in, do you get the BIOS or SPLASH SCREEN?

Also, try removing any other add in devices to be sure that they arent causing any issues. I.E. the CD DRIVE, ANY PCI CARDS ETC.

aLSO, YOU COULD TRY REMOVING THE BATTERY AND PLUGGING THE LAPTOP IN AND STARTING IT WIHTOUT THE BATTERY IN.

If it starts with just the power adapter but no battery. then its definatley a bad mobo.

Let me know how it goes.

The complete solution to this fault (Acer 5535 keeps crashing under vista) is to use Windows XP instead of Vista. Set up a Dual Boot so you can CHOOSE to load XP or Vista each time you turn on the laptop. I've put XP on my 5535 and it's SO much faster and seems perfectly stable now - no crashing at all.

A full video showing how to do this is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdfU9TXIAd4
Once you've done this you won't have any problems with the laptop anymore.
This is a perfect solution to the crashing problem!

try a CTRL+ALT+DELETE and select Start Task Manager and see if you can turn off some stuff to see if you can correct it. If you do it and it keeps happening and the same thing needs to be shut down try to see what it is related to and try to uninstall it.

I have a crappy HP pavillion dv6000 laptop, after working fine on shutdown last night, i turned on this morning and it would not boot up. the lights on the volume bar lit up, flashed, and went off...thats...

It's acting like the juice is drained in the battery. Are you sure it's charged? Do you have a spare battery you can swap out?

Some of them come with two. I actually have the same series laptop (a Pavilion dv6258se, 6000 series), and they can be a little flaky.

I also had an issue where my HP power cable (that connects the laptop to the wall outlet) was faulty, and needed to be replaced, because it stopped charging the battery. I ended up purchasing a generic replacement power cable on eBay.
