VPN

I have 2 workgroup/LAN's that I'd like to connect using a VPN. I have successfully configured the routers so that I can Ping from the remote location to the main location. I can also ping the other way.

However, I Remote Desktop doesn't work and I don't know how to transfer files from network to network ... which is the real reason I'm going through this whole thing. I do not run file servers ... rather both are just peer-to-peer networks.

Help.

- each LAN is at a different location. i'd like to connect them together so that we can file share and perhaps duplicate the functions of 'gotomypc'

does that answer your question?

- i have one network 10.1.1.x
a second network 11.1.1.x
they both share files within their own location, in a peer2peer manner, no files servers.
each network has a router (2 exact same models for each network) that access the internet. i have configured the routers' VPN settings to talk to each other over the INternet.
I can PING network 10 from network 11, and vica versa. However I can not perform any other funtion ... remote desktop, file sharing..

thanks,

- the ISP isn't blocking ... what should the WIndows settings be? What ports shouldn't be blocked?

Is this network in-house or does it use the internet for traversal?

Yes it helps to know that, thanks. If you are using similar flavors of "Windows" at both ends and the VPN is setup correctly then file-sharing should be relatively easy to accomplish.

Do you already share files on each discrete network locally?

- Which ports is your hardware using for the VPN and have you checked / or can you check that your ISP is not blocking VPN traffic?

- Let's check some basics, I think it'll be more useful at the moment.
Do you have these or similar settings on your VPN routers?

Windows Networking (NetBIOS over TCP/IP)
Allow NetBIOS Traffic Through All IPSec Tunnels

Secondly have you got a network sniffer program available to you?
