Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

Video will not show up on TV, can hear audio but screen is blank

Recently got a used PS3. Plugging in the audio/video cables (the red, white, yellow) and it seems that the audio is working but no video. Is this something that can be fixed if I take it somewhere or is it a gonner.

Thank you

Doesnt show up on the television. It does turn on. turned playstation on and off, tried different connections, still nothing

It is likely that the problem is your AV cable. This cable has one plug that connects to your Playstation 3 and a red plug, a white plug, and a yellow plug that connects to your television. Follow these steps to get your PS3 up and running again
  1. Unplug your AV cable from your PS3 and T.V.
  2. Plug in your AV cable to your PS3 and T.V.
When plugging your AV cable back into the T.V. make sure that the red plug is in the red socket, the yellow plug is in the yellow socket and the white plug is in the white socket.
If problems persist try using a different AV cable.

Tip

No Audio Blank Screen Video PS3 - SOLUTION

  1. Check video cables - Make sure they are secure and the TV has correct input selected.
  2. While the PS3 is OFF ( solid red light ): Hold DOWN the power button until your hear the SECOND BEEP, quickly release.
If that doesn't solve your problem: Remove the hard drive from the PS3.
Try the above steps again with the hard drive out.

If you still aren't receiving video or audio try connecting the PS3 to another TV and if possible, try different cables and different cable types: A/V (red, white, yellow) and HDMI.

If the above persists the problem is most likely related to the GPU on the motherboard. In this case I recommend contacting Sony direct for service.

Power comes on but it only shows a blank screen. screen shows nothing at all no menu, nothing. tv works fine.

Make sure the video/audio cable is plugged in correctly. Red cable into red socket, yellow into yellow and white into white. It is easy to put these cables in the wrong socket by accident and will cause no image to appear on your screen.

If you have a "slim" ps3, it does not beep 3 times. Try this.
First, with the system off, plug in your old red, white, yellow cables into the tv. (make sure your tv is on the correct setting). Now, just turn on the ps3 the regular way. Did you hear the sounds it normally makes when booting up (the ps3 boot music?). If so, thats good. If you did not, check again that the tv is on the right channel, and if possible, try another set of red, white, yellow cables.

If you heard sound, but do not get a picture, turn the ps3 back off. After the red light comes on, hold your finger down on the power button for about 5 seconds. If you have a fat ps3, it will beep 3 times after a few seconds to get back to regular tv mode. If you have a slim ps3, it will beep once, then 1 more time a few seconds later. It should reset and turn back on. If your tv is on the right channel and the cables work, then you should now see a picture and you know your audio/video is working. You can now try your HDMI cable and it should prompt you to use the HDMI at this point.

Hope that helps.
Mike!

For my PS3 There is no audio/video output for either the HDMI or Composite outputs

Your playstation should always come with 2 specific adaptors. One for power, the other which connects to your tv with yellow, white, and red cables. The yellow, white, and red cables are audio and video.
Hope I was help!

go to the ps3 settings and change the video settings (ithink) to hdmi and also change the sound to hdmi

the screen will go blank and then the tv should change to the hdmi av channel if not change to it and accept the changes

PS3 went from a "snowy" screen to a black screen. HELP PLEASE!!

hi..
Two or more things, first make sure you have your audio vidio cables correct

Yellow= Video
Red= Audio right
White Audio left

Also make sure that the tv matches the input your cables are connected into. I would make sure the restart the PS3 to make sure the video is good (after checking the tv input)

Ps3?

Check the couplings at either end of the cable. Sometimes these will loosen and can cause a lack of signal strength.

but its probably not the cable, its probably the ps3. HDMI cables don't really break because they are just wires, they don't have moving parts. Try connecting your PS3 to your TV with the regular cable red, white, and yellow connectors that you got when you bough the PS3. If the PS3 doesn't work with the original red, white, and yellow connectors then you know its the PS3. If the PS3 does work fine, you know its either the HDMI cable (still unlikely) or the HDMI connection on your TV or PS3 (more likely
