Re: black Printer cartridge
It will tell you the colour is low, regardless of the format in which you are printing. I don't believe Canon provide a way for you to disable this for their printer range, so you'll need to put in the new colour cartridge to get rid of this error. (you should however, be able to print whilst receiving this message)

Yes, it can be VERY frustrating. I would start with cleaning off contacts on the cartridge and on the printer where the cartridge plugs in. ... If it is a refurbished cartridge (or refilled) it's sensor internally could just be worn out. If you have tried multiple cartridges that are new or known good, it is possible your printer has a hardware problem too. ... If you know someone else with the same model of printer, try the cart's in the other printer to see if they are sensed good.

Dell AIO 948 Troubleshooting
Hi Good daY!!! Check your printer if there is something that block your print head. after that turn off your printer and then move the cartridge into the center and then remove the ink cartdriges. after that turn on your printer without the ink cartridges, now your printer will recognize that your ink cartdriges is missing after that insert the ink (insert it properly) and then see if your printer would work now.
hi...e5 = you printer cannot detect your cartridge...try to clean the cartridge chipset using a clean tissu....or make sure you using a cartdrige no 40,41.....but the best solution is change the new cartdrige....
I have used the printer series that you have for years, and once in awhile, I get a new cartridge that won't immediately print. Often, there is just a bit of dried ink residue on the print head, and that won't allow the cartridge to work correctly.
Some simple things to try are :
1) Remove the black cartridge. and take a damp paper towel and gently swab the print head area. Next, apply some pressure to the sides of the black cartridge, until you see black ink oozing out of the print head. Repeat if needed. Once the ink starts flowing, blot off the excess, and install the cartridge.
If you can't get ink to flow, then the cartridge might be bad. Most of them have an expiration date on the packaging.
Hi, it seems that it's a cartridge problem. That's the most probable reason why you're getting that error code. Try this out. 1. Remove cartridges. 2. Unplug printer from power outlet. 3. Then, plug printer back in power outlet after 10-15 seconds. 4. Reinsert cartridges.
If error still appears, redo steps 1, 2 and 3. Then, insert black cartridge first. If error appears, replace black cartridge. If not, insert color cartridge, if error appears, replace color cartridge. Hope this helps.
