Question about Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

Dyson DC07 The plastic pre filter catch snapped on my Dyson. I have a replacement already, but can't figure out how to remove the bottom of the broken one. It looks easy enough to slide/snap the new one in but accessing the old one isn't easy. What do I need to do to get it out?

Turn your dyson over so you can get to the bottom undo the screw and then you can see the bottom of the clip a gentle tap with with a screw driver blade will knock it out and the other one slips in

Is there a filter underneath the cloth one at base of stork

Hi Stephen, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC07 has two filters, a washable pre-motor filter, and a post-motor filter that doesn't need any maintenance. Both filters are engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use, and shouldn't need replacing.

We wouldn't expect a filter to be missing from the machine unless it's previously been removed and not replaced. The washable pre-filter is shown in the video below - it has a yellow plastic outer section, and a blue sponge inner section:

If you're concerned that either of the filters is missing or damaged, you can order a replacement by calling us directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

How to replace pre filter catch?

Unscrew this one screw to do it. wiggle the loose bit. until you can fit a flat head screwdriver into the gap the catch fits into . Dunt the bit out. Screw back into place. Push the catch in from the front until it clicks. 7ca98fa9-c03c-4ffb-ba67-ae98528a7147.jpg

The grey pre-filter catch broke and we ordered a new one. now we don't know how to install it.

I just successfully completed this replacement on a DC33 (the prefilter catch is blue on this model.) Not sure how different the assembly is from the DC07 but thought I would post: If you turn the vacuum over there are two screws that loosen the exhaust pipe--one you can see and one up a small shaft (which also loosens the cowling just under the cyclonic assembly.) Both will require a driver or allen-style wrench with a medium-sized star head. Remove both and you will be able to take off the exhaust pipe. You'll need to pull back the aforementioned cowling a bit as you do this. Once the exhaust pipe is off you will be able to see the bottom of the prefilter catch. You'll notice five tiny bays--if you shine a flashlight through you'll see that between bays 2 and 3 there is a small catch (you can note it at the bottom of your replacement prefilter catch as well.) Shove two extra small screw drivers (like the size you get in eyeglass repair kits) into bays 2 & 3, then gently press down on the driver handles to release the catch. A little pushing at the same time will remove your broken prefilter catch. DON'T INSTALL YOUR NEW CATCH YET! Otherwise, like me, you'll have to immediately remove it to reinstall the exhaust pipe :) This was the most time consuming part of the whole operation, as you kind of have to fenangle it a bit to get it back on. Be patient and don't forget to pull the cowling back again while you're doing this. Once it's back on, realign the cowling at the top of the assembly and replace the screws. Then you can turn the vacuum upright again to easily snap in your new prefilter catch.

How many filters does a dyson dc07 have

Hi there, the DC07 has 2 filters. A pre motor washable filter and a post motor filter which will be either a simple pad (like thick cloth) or a Hepa filter (about and inch thick with a plastic housing). The post motor filter should not be washed but the pre motor filter can. As a technician I would recommend replacing every couple of years for best running of your vacuum. The post motor filter is under the clear bin, you can lever the cover off with a small flat blade screwdriver. The washable filter is to the right of the post motor filter inside a removable housing.

How do you replace the pre filter catch on a dc07 please

The pre filter retaining clip is easy to fit, but hard to get the old one out. This is the easy way to do it:-
Turn the machine over, where the bottom of the clip should be is a plate blocking access, it is held in place by a torex headed screw. DO NOT remove this. Instead drill about an 8mm hole through the plastic plate, roughly in the middle level with the large 'A'. This will give you access to the bottom of the clip. Put a flat blade scewdriver through your new access hole and push out the broken clip. It should spring out with a couple of knocks with the palm of your hand. Turn the machine upright and push in the new clip. The hole is not seen and as long as it is a neat job, does not affect the strength of the plate.
Cheers Malc.

Dyson DC7 full Kit, with one belt does not get suction to head.

Not absolutely sure about this, so your feedback will be very welcome.
What follows applies to the DC14, which I think is similar in this respect:
Stand behind the machine, holding the handle at a 45 degree angle. Locate and remove the airway inspection valve (bottom of handle, right side). Where the valve plugs in there is a square plastic moulding that should slide up and down. Snap that square plastic piece up towards the ceiling. After it snaps into place, the machine should stand upright.
Good luck, and please let me know how you get on!

I was vacuuming with the Dyson DC 17 and sucked up a berber carpet string by accident and after cutting and pulling it all out of the bottom brush part, the brush no longer spins but the suction part...

The belt could be snapped. If this model has a brush protected belt then it has to be repaired by a service call. If however you can get to the brush roll belt by removing the bottom sole plate (turning over the vacuum so that you're looking at the base) with the plastic catches undone where you can see the belt then check to see if it has snapped. If it hasn't snapped then it may just need readjusting.

If you can't see the belt and has protective covers that can't be undone then the model has a brush control system that has to be replaced by someone who can do Dyson repairs.

Dyson DC07 shuts down after 5-10 minutes of use and horrible suction!

I have had this problem on two dysons and have solved it by replacing the so called lifetime pre-filter. The problem is not the washable blue sponge but the material gauze filter in the plastic surround.

To see if this is your problem try removing the whole filter (i.e. the filter with the blue sponge inside - you need to remove both bits not just the sponge).

If you do a quick vacuum test for a few minutes then see what effect this has on the suction.

If you need a new part try somewhere like here (you'll need to chose for the right model) : http://www.espares.co.uk/part/dyson/dc07/p/1086/716/6/420625/875479/lifetime-pre-motor-dyson-.html

As I say this has fixed both of mine.
