Tip

"The waste ink absorber is almost full" message?

This applies to the CANON PIXMA MP130 and other ink-jets made by Canon/Pixma.

According to the user's manual, "Ink used to clean the print head is absorbed by the waste ink tank. When this message is displayed, the waste ink tank needs to be replaced, or the machine requires maintenance". There is no information about how to replace or empty the waste ink tank.

In any case, you can try the following to clear up the error, but eventually you'll need the waste tank to be emptied or replaced. And as far as I know, you can't find the replacement parts to buy, nor the instructions to empty the waste tank.

Turn on your MP130.
1) After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan or Menu-Copy-Scan-Copy-Copy in some models, it depends on the date it was produced)
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Enter NVRAM ACCESS
4) Select SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0
5) Select OK
6) Keep selecting OK untill you leave the TEST MODE

Then turn it OFF and again ON. Check if the error message is still there.
The following is taken from the Canon website, regarding this specific error:

"Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk."

As I mentioned before, I have not found any way or procedure to empty or replace the waste ink absorber nor the necesary replacement part.

How do you gain access to the "used ink tank" on the Canon i560?

Well Fay after much research, the best answers I've seen actually came from other experts on this website. The link below will take you to another Fixya page with several, very good solutions to the same problem you have. My personal favorite was soaking up waste ink from the pad with kleenex or some other absorbent material as you won't need to take apart your machine. You merely remove the ink cartridges and carriage to gain access to the pad/sponge that Canon calls it's waste tank. I do wish you well and hope you come back to let me know if you were able to fix your machine.

Canon SA - Useless

HI,

I'm going to shoot you several things and include a link to a web site for people with printer problems I belong to.

I'm also going to ask several other experts to come in on your case and help out so you don't feel lost, lonely and steppped on by Canon.

You did send me several other Requests on this issue but I noticed you are using a new ID. Do have confusion using our site and have created more than one user ID as a result?

1.) Sometimes you can reset Canon printers by holding down the Cancel button for five full complete seconds, so count to six or seven first to make certain.

You may see the lights on your control panel flash and then go green. See if that doesn't help you, first. This may or may not work on your printer if you have a bad tank chip as I suspect. I will do another search for any reset tricks on ink tanks, but I do believe in your case you have a bad tank with a faulty chip.

The reasoning Canon uses this technique is to hinder ink tank refillers. Each tank has a chip inside that contains an ID number. When the printer reports low or empty ink and you refill the same tank and the printer see the same chip ID and now its full, it 'frankly' stops you in your tracks because you didn't buy a brand new expensive Canon ink cartridge. This is patently unfair.

The strategy used by ink tank refillers is to have TWO sets of tanks. When one tank is empty you refill the previous tank so the chip IDs are different and this gets around Canon's attempt to make you by Canon and only Canon ink.

As this is the standard work around if you want to continue to refill tanks, having a second set is sensible but costly only this one time. Hopefully, this one won't have a bad chip inside and you can use your printer while we get this taken care of. A yellow ink tank runs from $11-$15 U.S. Dollars. To us that's not bad but it may be very expensive for you.

On the ip4500 I have seen posts regarding bad chips inside the Yellow Tank in particular. Read this post here at FixYourOwnPrinter.com

The Canon representative you spoke to dismissed you out of hand as a pseudo criminal because you had broken the seal of the tank chamber in refilling the tank. On paper, they can do this. But whether they should have is an issue in my mind. If the chip inside is bad and Canon knows their chips show up faulty you should have been sent a replacement anyway. But, they will argue and argue righteously that you violated Terms of Use by breaking the seal fo the tank in order to refill it.

Try holidng the Cancel button down for 6-7 seconds while it is on and see if you get a full system reset. Meanwhile consider what I stated above to have two tanks on hand so the printer thinks a new tank was inserted. Then, I will post to some friends here at FixYa on your issue with getting support from Canon in SA and see if they have something to offer.

Regards,
Worldvet

Gentlemen, I bought 3 months ago a printer model MP-510. It worked fine, until I replaced one of the ink tank ( black) with a kit of refill ink from a local supplier. Now my printer refused to print any...

insert orignal canon black ink tank it will work .return that ink tank as the chip in that ink tank is not detected by the printer so you are facing this problem.

thanks.

I believe that he is reffering to the waste ink tank where the cartriges stop to the right when not being used. There are two small foam pads over there.
I cleaned mine by opening lid and have carriage run to the left, then I reach in with a q-tip and press down repeatly until q-tips are almost clean. You will need a flashlight to see waht you are doing.

Orange light blinking

Solution: Confirm the ink tank(s) are properly installed iP4300

Ensure that the ink tank is installed properly. Open the Top Cover, Paper Output Tray and Inner Cover, and then press on the 'PUSH' mark on the ink tank whose lamp is off until the ink tank clicks into place. Once the ink tank is installed properly its lamp will light red.
Ensure that all the orange tape has been peeled off as shown in (1). If a part of the orange tape remains as shown in (2), remove it completely.
