Re: tv turns on then goes off by itself
Try resoldering the flyback connections and look the board over real good for cold or cracked solder. Cold solder appears dull instead of shiny and cracks are often nothing more than a very small ring around the pin connection
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Do you have the tools required to solder electronics? Do you know how to solder electronics? Have you been trained in CRT safty ? Do you know about High Voltage safty? Is the tv Model number WS-65809? Do you know how to perform static geometry adjustement on a WS65809 if needed? Do you know how to perform static convergence alignment on a WS-65809? Do you know how to perform fine convergence adjustement to a WS-65809?
The answer is :yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
You can retreive an error code of 23 or 24 right after the tv shuts
itself off .
There is a 95% chance that I could tell you what to solder , no parts need to be replaced in your television and you would not have to pay someone to repair it.
if you heard a hissing or like static sound your board probably has a hole in it now. the board on the left side with the flyback fransformer. the hole is from where a prong has come loose an is arking over an it burns the board the ark is the sound you heard.
Hello Lizzy48. I'm sorry to inform you but from your info you may have a flyback problem. This could be a power supply failure as well but as I mentioned from previous experience your High Voltage Flyback Power supply has a problem. If you have experience in electronic repair you may aquire someone to guide you in the repair to componet level or option #2 call a local TV repair shop for estamates. Good luck.
I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.
Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV
up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors.
Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although
were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of
preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected
due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.
Place your ear near the back of the tv and have someone turn the unit on. If the following occur :
a.) If you hear a high pitched whining sound and the fan trying to start but the unit fails to start and goes all quiet it could be a bulb issue. (see owners manual for trouble shooting code of blinking power light in front of tv)
b.) you hear nothing. It may be that the power supply for the unit has failed or its fail safe fuse has tripped. ( call tech this one needs a pro to sort out )
c.) seems like its trying to restart itself but does not quite make it. ( its a bulb issue check owners manual )
