HP Compaq Presario V5000 PC - Shuts doen while plugged into AC adapter.

I have a HP Presario V5000 laptop. While running on AC it will not charge consistenly. It will shutdown after 2-3 hours of being left on on AC. When restarted it indicates that it is running on battery and the battery is dead. I unplug and replug the ac adapter and it repeats the charging and the whole process.

Eather you have one or a couple of the following problems,

1. you have a bad battery
2. the power supply is defective
3. the charging circuit in the laptop is defective and the motherboard will require replacement or repaired.

Compaq Presario V5000 does not come on

The solution to your problem lies in one of the following three areas:

1.) Your charger is faulty and is therefore not able to pass power to your laptops battery.

2.) The charging connector on the laptop has come loose from the contacts. Therefore a bad connection.

3.) Your battery is faulty.

I think possibility 2 is the most likely, although you will have to test possibility 3 by removing the battery and plugging in your charger and seeing if the laptop powers on.If it does power on then that rules out possibility 1 and 2 leaving a faulty battery.

Compaq presario v5000 won't stay

sounds like overheating , probably due to the cpu or gpu fan/heatsing loosing contact, even a little knock could have caused this

Need to know the polarity of the power input plug Is it center + or - Compaq presario v5000

Normally all laptops' center pin is positive and the outer cylindrical shaped metal area is negative. What is your purpose to know it? Playing with adapter may make your system dead. Be carful.

Have a look at the label on the bottom of the V3000 laptop and check the voltage and amps power rating of the laptop.
If the DV9000 adapter has the same voltage and current rating (amps) or higher amp rating then it is suitable for the V3000 laptop, provided the power plug fits the V3000 power socket.

Some laptops will not power up with a completely discharged or faulty battery. Remove the battery from the laptop, plug in the power cord and try to boot the system. If the system boots, your battery needs to be replaced. Replace your battery as soon as you can, it's not a good idea to run the laptop for extended periods with an open battery bay.
