Question about Hoover Vacuums

Open Question

My Hoover Windtunnel Ultra U6425-900 began shutting off after a few minutes of vacuuming. The time interval became shorter and shorter. If I leave it sit a while, it will start again. This does not happen when I used the attachments - only with the floor brushes. The switch has recently been replaced and the whole vacuum serviced by a Hoover dealer about a year ago. I have been told by a local repair shop(not a Hoover dealer) that it is the motor, there is nothing to do other than replace the motor, and that this is a common problem with this vacuum. Hmmmm. Any idea if it really is the motor? I can take it back to the Hoover dealer to have it looked at, which I will if necessary, but it is a distance away. If it is the motor, and I can get a replacement, is it something I should attempt myself? I am a DIY'er and have had the vacuum apart before. Thanks for your help Wanda

This has no belts, there are 4 small brush rolls, if the ends are bad and not turning then you will need to replace them. The newer ones have metal instead of plastic so are better. Should be able to buy the brush rolls at a local shop or from http://vacuumsuperstore.com/U8120.html

Did you check down by the brush roll for a clog in the dirt inlet. And is the brush roll turning freely, if it is being lugged down, it can cause the motor to overheat and the thermo protector will caught it off, until the motor cools down. But if both are ok, then maybe the motor protector needs to replaced, it is prematurely tripping.

Sounds like its overheating and cutting out.
This is normally caused by a blockage or blocked filers.

SOURCE: Hoover Windtunnel shuts down after 15 minutes

Might be that its not exausting enough heat & stutting its self down..

Try cleaning all the filters & the hepa filter..
This will increase air flow & maybe fix the issue..

Hope this helps !!

The wider belt is # 38528035,( package # 40201170 ), and the v-belt is # 38528034, ( package # 40201200 ). The wide belt should be replaced twice as often as the v-belt.

Hoove Cyclonic Bagless vacuum shuts off after only a few minutes

The motor has a protective overload cutout device to stop it from over heating - this can be caused by a blockage of some sort in the hose or brushroll compartment or blocked filters.
After checking the above and it still cuts out, take it back under gurantee

My hoover vacuum runs for about 10-15 minutes then the saftey feature shuts it off(overheat?). i have taking it apart a cleaned it with no results, added new bag also. after an hour it cools down and works...

Do you have suction through the tools? Does it look like it picks up when it runs? The machine could be clogged and that would cause the problem, but unfortunately the sensor that shuts the machine off could be bad if the machine isnt clogged. Its not easy to get to it, I'd take it to a repair shop.

Why does the hose have no suction?

Hi,
Sounds like your machine has a blockage in the vacuum system, and is cutting out from overheating. If you no longer have a manual, which will tell you about clearing blockages, you can download from the Hoover website.
Good luck!

Replace the belt

Once the bottom plate has been removed, the motor shaft is silver, but hard to see. hook the new belt on it first. then start rolling on the top of the large black pulley to install.

Deluxe windtunnel by hoover

Check for a clog in the hose or the dirt inlet by the brush roll. When there is a blockage, the thermo protector will shut the motor off to protect it. That protector could be bad, or a problem with the motor. Is the brush roll turning freely and or is it froze up and won't move.
