I am having problems faxing and scanning. When I send a fax it comes out illegible at the other end. Sometimes only half the page scanned and the remainder is blank, or there are big black blotches on parts of the page at the receiving end. Also, last week I couldn't send a fax at all. It just kept trying to send, but it would never go through. I know the fax number, etc. is operating and correct because it's a fax I fax to several times a week.
There are sensors in the document feeder that detect the width and length of the paper being copied or faxed. Try getting a can of compressed air and go nuts blowing all the dust out of the feeder, if you spray everything you can get to, you will probably blow clean the sensors. Just an educated guess.

You can actually scan directly to an application(ex. MS Word application). Also, make sure the Lexmark OCR scan software is installed on your computer (the software is available on the install disc that came with your printer).
1. Load an original document into the ADF or on the scanner glass.
2. Press Scan Mode.
3. Press ? or ? repeatedly until the MS Word application is highlighted.
4. Press check button.
5. Press Start Color or Start Black to start scanning.

If the scanner is clicking than it is a scanner issue. Make sure there is not a lock button on the machine. They sometimes have these for when the printer is being moved. As for the faxing software it would seem that that part didn't not get installed so if you can update it.
first check the printer by copying something, here u can see the problem that u r telling me,or check it by scanning something in ur computer,if u can see that problem, all u have to do is,open the top glass cover, under the top cover thers a scanning unit(lamp unit),in that scanning unit ther are some mirrors clean that mirrors with cotton bud, clean the top glass,n fix everything again, problem will be solved
