In case it has no warranty
Does the power light blink
if it doesnt then try it in another power socket or try another power cable

if the light blinks unplug it open its cover, remove its ram chip try powering it without ram, then put the ram chip back. i think it will power now.

if the above does nt work for you please
please describe its behaviour detailed..

How can i add speed to my compaq presario sr5210nx with vista

The best way to add speed would be to upgrade the RAM on your PC. Your motherboard supports up to 2GB of RAM. If the PC that you can take parts from Has 2GB of 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) then, you can swap those modules.

Otherwise, you can buy them at the link provided below:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145098

RAM is the best way to breath new life into an older PC.

I have a blinking light in both the front and back and I'm also hearing a clicking sound.

It's the click of death - the hard disk has died mechanically and all the data on it is lost.
Buy a new one, put it in and reinstall Windows using the recovery cd that came with the pc when you bought it.

The best bet is to borrow a copy from a neighbour/friend and use your CD key on the side of your laptop instead of his to register.

also get onto the police and report that repairman as he's charged you for a job he hasn't done and using illegal software.

My monitor has kicked into sleep mode and won't "wake up".

Unplug all the Cables from Compaq Presario 5103 CL and leave the Keyboard, mouse and monitor cable pluged in.

Now make sure the power cable of the monitor should be pluged in and the power cable of the tower should be pluged in.

Now to check if the montor is fine just unplug the video cable only which will show no input signal on the screen. If it shows this signal the monitor is fine. Plug back in the video cable.

If the monitor is going to sleep mode it might be possible that the old computer ( Compaq Presario 5103 CL ) is in stand by mode. hit any key on the keyboard and it should come back .

If it is not in the stand by mode then do one thing. Check the same monitor with the new computer. If it is working. Perfect ..!

Do one thing now ..!

Unplug all the cables from your old system and then press the power button for 30 sec and let it go. Now plug the keyboard, mouse and the monitor try again.
If it works Perfect. If not ..!

Then you need to open the tower and check on the processor FAN is it running..? If its not running you will not get the display as the fan is responsible for the display on the screen. Otherwise...!

Check the Tower possibly the Tower is not getting the power.

Try these steps and let me know If it works

Emachine w5243 still shutting down by itself. Sometimes it will shut down during boot up and other times i can get on it and it will stay on for a couple of hours or so.I have ran a virus scan on it and it...

its not the hard drive because mine was doing the same thing and i took it to the shop and had it checked out.........the motherboard is shot.....it happens alot of times because it gets too hot.......if you will look at the capaciters behind the heat sink fan you will see that they are actually starting to become round on the ends and they should be flat......some shops will tell you that you cannot replace the motherboard unless you want to spend more money that a new tower on it but they are obviously out to make money....i had mine replaced and it was alot cheaper than I was told it would be but of course i took it to a guy that had a shop and didnt want outragious prices for his work.....after buying a motherboard and him doing the labor and re installing all the drivers and my windows vista home premium and also buying another 1Gb of memory to go in it my total cost for it all was 160 bucks..........just to have it checked out at the other place which took 5 days for them to do anything it cost me 67 bucks there.......i would have been better off going to the other guy first

Have Windows ME,seems to be outdated. Do not make software for it anymore. Would like to upgrade to Vista. Can't hook up anything to it. Have to be Vista or XP. Which is better for a Compaq Presario 5000

The Compaq Presario 5000 is not powerful enough to run Vista so XP is your best bet. I assume you have the standard 512MB RAM which will be fine for XP Once you outgrow that you'll need to go for more powerful hardware. By that time the new Windows 7 should have been officially released.

Upgrade

Hi!

Two things to do then, either buy a new bigger disk and replace the on on your HP...OR buy an external disk and connect it via the USB.

Just remeber that you need to reinstall everythin on that HP if you replace the disk on it with another one

Good luck

My laptop turns on but then I get a blank screen.

Put in your windows vista CD and boot the PC. It will boot from the CD and you should be able to select a recovery/repair option. Otherwise I believe you can reinstall windows without loosing your data.

You really should backup your data and do a clean install of Vista.

I'm not completely sure on what you are exactly asking here, but I'll do the best I can. If you have the Recovery CD, you need to boot from the CD and run the Recovery. When you go to do the recovery you will have two options, the normal recovery or the destructive recovery. If there is nothing important and everything can be wiped, run a destructive, but if you need everything run the other one. If you do not have a Recovery CD but have a Windows Vista disk that matches the version on your computer (IE: Windows Vista Home 32 bit is on your computer and you have a Windows Vista Home 32 bit disk) and you DO NOT need anything saved, just reinstall Windows. There is a product key for Vista on the sticker attached to your case. If you have neither, then you can probably get a new recovery disk by contacting HP (since they bought out Compaq). If you can not get a new Recovery CD, you will need to go out and buy a new copy of Windows Vista.
