Question about Refrigerators

Hot door frame ( Whirlpool side by side door frig )

The front frame of my side by side is hot where the door magnet touch, we cleaned dust from under and back and its less hot but still warm, the fan at the bottom right rear is not working.

My problem is exactly the same. I took off the cardboard insulation panel at the back, cleaned out the dust, and then plugged it in again. The fan doesn't work that faces the freon container (?). The container is extremely hot. I don't know if it's the fan, a circuit, or the wiring.

How dangerous is it to let it run until I can repair it?

The product is about 10 years old. Model number is ED25PQ, side by side refrigerator.

The mullion frame stays warm to eliminate sweating during the heat season. This is accomplished by routing the heat removed from the unit by the freon through tubing behind the mullion strip(s). Generally this is experienced as "warm". However, if the unit runs longer than normal in an attempt to pull heat out of the box to satisfy the cold control, these mullions will be HOT to the touch. Basically this serves as an alarm to alert you to a circulation problem. You describe a fan at the bottom right rear as "not working"?

Most modern refrigerators have heaters around the gasket to keep frost and condensation from forming. What you're seeing may be normal.

Exterior panel between freezer and refridgerator that magnetic strip sticks to is very hot.

Have seen it many times before especially on Whirlpool fridges before. It is not detrimental to the running of the fridge but has the tendency to warp the door fridge seals. In my opinion, when the fridge was piped up, instead of running the high side (hot pipe from the compressor), through the radiator first and then to the fridge body, they have done it in the opposite way. As a result, All the heat from the compressor is going firstly into the fridge frame to eventually exiting and then going to the radiator.(Thats why it is so hot between the doors). To rectify this, you need a technician to swap the pipes over at the back as already discussed, then regass..

Getting hot

Hi,

This can be caused by the condenser running hot due to being dirty or the fan not running. See the link below for details on how to clean and check this.

Frigidaire #FRS24XHA is hot to touch and freezes food on the left

Hi: Those areas are designed to be warm to keep moisture from forming there(Moulion coil). When they get hot it means the fridge is over working. The condenser coils remove the heat from the fridge. When clogged the heat will leave anywhere it can. The moulion coil is the strip you described, and will overheat when the condenser coils wont disperse the heat. Most likely the coils need a good cleaning, on the bottom of the ref. Use a coil brush and a vacuum. Or even an air compressor to blow the dust and hair out; plan on dusting the house too. Pull the grill off the front and clean them. If real bad pull the panel of the lower back and clean it out too. Since you work in detroit the dust and hair on the coils would be like putting a blanket over your radiator. Parts would heat up. I hope it's just the coils. If a compressor is failing you can get the same symptoms. I hope it is the latter for you, as I'm in your boat also. I hope this helps, Jeff

I have a side beside whirlpool refrigerator/freezer. today I noticed the strip between the frig and freezer was very hot and coil under frig are almost too hot to touch. It has been this way since about...

no danger of fire, they(Whirlpool) run a copper heat tube through the center mullion of frig, to cut down on amount of undesirable condensation that may build up between doors, reason for extra heat can be from leaving door open too long, perhaps the coils under the frig need to be vacuumed,

Also clean the coils underneath the unit as far as the fan (condenser ) you can put a house fan on the back blowing to cool the compresser until you get a replacement. That fan runs anytime the compresser runs

Door frame around freezer door is very hot for a long time in side-by-side refrigerator/freezer

The problem you describe is caused by the hot gas pipe that runs around the cabinet, this is normal for it too get warm, the only reason it would be very hot is that for some reason the gases are not being cooled, probable cause is that the condenser is blocked with dust or fluff, depending on axact version some are located behind the plastic trim that runs below the doors and others are in the back behind the lower rear panel. Loud Humming and Hot Front Panel

DONT TOUCH ANYTHING. IF IT IS COOLING CORRECTLY LEAVE IT. LOUD HUMMING IS COMMON ON SOME COMPRESSORS.(ANNOYING I KNOW).THE HEATING ON THE FRONT IS NORMAL AS IT IS THE MULLON HEATERS WHICH RUN THROUGH THE FRAME. IF THAT AREA WERE COLD, CONDENSATION WOULD OCCUR AND WOULD DRIP CONTINUOUSLY.
