Question about HP LaserJet 4 plus Printer

1 Answer

Scratched Drum The drum has a small scratch on the far right margin. I need to know if I can cover this scratch somehow. I don't need to have this area to be written to by the laser, because the location is almost on the papers edge, I just need to keep the small black dot from appearing on the documents.

If it is in the non imaging area you can try covering the scratch with finger nail polish. Thin the nail polish with acetone before applying so it will set smother. do not run until it is completely dry. The worst that will happen is you'll get a streak there and have to replace the drum cart. The best will be a small blank spot that is only seen when an image is in that area. I have used this method before with about an 80% success.
Hope that helps...

How do I change the drum to a Canon NP 7130 Black and White copier?

Could be the drum or the fuser causing your problem. To replace drum you need to open the machine by hitting the gray release latch on eft ide of machine to clamshell it open. Inside you will see th toner cartridge/ dv unit on the far right and immediately to the eft of that is the drum unit. You need to release the dv unit by turning a lever before removing the drum unit. Should probably call a tech to do this for you so you dont scratch or damage the drum. Drum life on that model is about 30,000 prints. Whats the meter reading on that copier?

Hi I am having a problem printing a flyer under pub.2007 in color and the black and white prints with a line down the right of center. Its not my cannon printer cause I was abel to printer in color test...

Stripes on the print in one colour would be the toner cartridge. Stripes in all colours would be a scratch on the drum.

Its not likely to be a software issue and certainly not the computer. It is common for technical support to fob the customer off with nonsense about it being software or computer problems that they don't support and give you the run around.

If the drum has been scratched, these days its generally cheaper to buy a new printer as the drum is usually more expensive.

Our Hp 5550 prints thin vertical black lines on high res images. They are evenly spaced (3cm apart on an A4 print).

This is caused by a damaged drum. The drum is the long metal cylinder inside the toner cartridge. You will have to replace the hold cartridge. You should be able to flip a plastic cover on the toner and see the drum. If it has black toner lines then it usually means the drum is scratched and there for toner fills the scratch and produces lines.
Replace the print cartridge (toner cartridge) and the lines should go away.

My tire was loose i replaced the bearing in my rear passenger tire and the drum looks like it came apart at the bottom what do i do do i replace the drum itself

http://www.bc4x4.com/tech/2009/drumbrakes/ It maybe scratched up on the inside maybe needs turned, or even replaced a parts store can help you with that part. The link above should cover the rest of your questions, even has an exploded view of the drum components to make sure the guts are in right. Just make sure that you can put the drum on easily when you replace or reinstall after you have it turned. You want to be able to feel it hitting the break shoes but do not want it to be tight when putting back on you need a little clearance in there or the break will drag all the time.

Spots in middle of paper and there are horizotal streaks in the printing

The light sensitive drum in the toner cartridge is dirty.
remove the toner cartridge, move the cover over to reveal the drum and use a soft cloth to wipe the old toner off the drum.
If you cannot remove the toner or the drum is scratched, then purchase a new toner cartridge.
A new toner cartridge will fix your problem.

I have a DCP-7040 Brother Laser printer. I am getting a lot of black lines when i print. I have tried cleaning the head of drum but that did nothing.

Two likely possibilities:

1. The drum is scratched by particles caught under the drum cleaning blade. Every copier or printer that has a drum leaves a little bit of toner on the drum that didn't get transferred to the paper. A soft plastic blade scrapes off that excess. If a chunk of fused toner or something gets caught under it, it can scrape a groove around the drum, resulting in a black line. Take a close look at the drum for scratches matching the lines you get. The cure is a new drum unit.

2. The fuser roller is scratched. Open up the back of the printer. The fuser is the assembly with labels warning about how hot it is. The final stage of the print process is to press the page between those two hot rollers, melting the toner into the paper. The hot roller is coated with Teflon to prevent pulling toner off the page and laying it back down where it doesn't belong, but like the drum, it can be scratched. You might be able to look for scratches on the hot roller with the help of a strong flashlight and magnifier. If it's scratched, you need a new hot roller or a complete new fuser.

Let us know what you find.

Oki 5150 color are not print right

You need to replace the magenta drum. Just because there is life left; it's possible it is scratched. Also, take a cotton ball dip in alcohol and wipe the LED's off when the cover is open; those black things that are hanging down from the cover. Also, make sure your drums are installed in the proper spots (magenta in magenta slot). If the toner "rubs off" after it prints... then the fuser is defective.
