Hello

Actually all Norton products slow down the computers. Why dont you uninstall Norton 360, and see whether the performance of your computer has increased,if it does, ill recommend you to install Bitdefender Internet Security 2008, please check link below:
http://internet-security-suite-review.toptenreviews.com/
it is a review of all the security softwares. and also ill recommend you to install, Tuneup Utilities 2008, it will keep your computer clean of junk files.

Hope this helps you.

How do I activate norton 360 that I downloaded to my computer

You may want to contact Norton on this one. Usually it is done right on there site with the access code you should have gotten. The reason I say contact them is because Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft.

How do i remove norton 360 fron one computer so i can install it on another

Hello kenelwell,

Norton 360 usually has 3 activations when purchased. If you have only used 1, all you need to do is install it on the new computer and use the same CD Key that you used prior.

There is some information on the Symantec site about this very thing. You can read more about it at:

Norton 360 on additional computers

There are some special conditions if 360 came already installed on your old computer.

Hope this provides you with the needed information.

Lastly, to remove 360 (and other products from Symantec) the best thing is to run the Norton Removal Tool which can be found at:

http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN

Thanks for using Fixya.

I had problems with an extremely slow pc. I replaced mcafee with Norton 360. Norton found a few trojans, etc. All removed and i undertook a disk defragment. Then Windows xp home edition did not start in...

Both Norton and Mcafee are known for slowing pc's down.

Boot your PC as normal, but as its starting keep pressing the F8 key until some options appear on your screen. On of which will be "boot windows in safe mode".

Select that option and a windows shell should open.

Once open got to Start - Control Panel - Add/remove programmes and uninstal both mcafee and norton.

Once complete, reboot and see how you PC runs.

Assuming its working ok now, go back to your control panel - security centre - enable windows firewall.

Go online to "Filehippo.com" and download and istall the free version of AVG (anti virus software) once installed let it scan your system.

Then go back to Filehippo.com, download and install Ccleaner. This has loads of tools, :-
1) Cleaner clears all the tempory internet files of your pc.

2) Startup - you can reduce the number of programes you want th start up when booting.

You don't need any here because you can access all programmes via start but I'd leave AVG and any securtiy related to start and delete the rest. But its probably better to just disable the rest until you're happy with which programmes auto start.

Good Luck

To run the Microsoft Windows Installer if Norton AntiVirus was installed from the CD
  1. Insert the Norton AntiVirus CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If the installation program appears, then click Browse the CD
    • If the installation program does not appear, then double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop, and then double-click the CD-ROM drive icon.
  3. Double-click the MSI folder.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click the WIN9x folder.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click the WINNT folder.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click the Instmsi.exe file.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click Instmsiw.exe if you have Windows 2000/XP.
  6. In the next dialog box, click Yes.
  7. After the rollback has finished, then reinstall Norton AntiVirus.
Follow the instruction in Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages to start the computer without any programs running on startup and then reinstall your Norton program.

If these steps do not fix the problem, then go on to the next section.

To run the Microsoft Windows Installer if Norton AntiVirus was installed from a downloaded version
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Find (or Search) > Files or Folders.
  2. Ensure that "Look in" is set to the drive where you downloaded Norton AntiVirus, and that "Include subfolders" is checked.
  3. In the "Named" or "Search for..." box, do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, type the following:

      instmsi.exe
    • In Windows 2000/XP, type the following:

      instmsiw.exe
  4. Click Find Now or Search Now.
You might see many files with this name. Look for the file with this name that is located in either the Symantec_Norton_AntiVirus_2003 or the your Windows temporary file location depending on your version of Norton AntiVirus.
  5. In the Search Results window, do one of the following, depending on your version of Windows:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click Instmsi.exe.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click Instmsiw.exe.
  6. In the next dialog box, click Yes.
This will undo the changes that were made to your system during the first failed installation.
  7. After the process finishes, then reinstall Norton AntiVirus.
Follow the instruction in Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages to start the computer without any programs running on startup and then reinstall your Norton program.

the problem lies in the registry uninstall norton 360 then re-install this clears the reg then try your key again.

my personal View Don't use norton 360 as it will slow your system down use Kespersky Internet security this is the best one out and also use avg virus program when you switch to kaspesky internet security then remove avg which you can get a free version.
