Hi Koochy - There could be several reasons for this. Norton's takes alot of your CPU for one. I'm including a link that I'd like you to read and do what it says and let me know the results. Also, right click on your tak bar, click on task manager. When it opens, under processes write down anything that's taking up more than a few percent of your CPU and let me know what they are. Also let me know the make and model# of your machine so I can check the specs. Answer these questions please and we'll be on the way to fixing you up. Thanks.

    Jeff

How do I activate norton 360 that I downloaded to my computer

You may want to contact Norton on this one. Usually it is done right on there site with the access code you should have gotten. The reason I say contact them is because Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft.

How do i remove norton 360 fron one computer so i can install it on another

Hello kenelwell,

Norton 360 usually has 3 activations when purchased. If you have only used 1, all you need to do is install it on the new computer and use the same CD Key that you used prior.

There is some information on the Symantec site about this very thing. You can read more about it at:

Norton 360 on additional computers

There are some special conditions if 360 came already installed on your old computer.

Hope this provides you with the needed information.

Lastly, to remove 360 (and other products from Symantec) the best thing is to run the Norton Removal Tool which can be found at:

http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN

Thanks for using Fixya.

I had problems with an extremely slow pc. I replaced mcafee with Norton 360. Norton found a few trojans, etc. All removed and i undertook a disk defragment. Then Windows xp home edition did not start in...

Both Norton and Mcafee are known for slowing pc's down.

Boot your PC as normal, but as its starting keep pressing the F8 key until some options appear on your screen. On of which will be "boot windows in safe mode".

Select that option and a windows shell should open.

Once open got to Start - Control Panel - Add/remove programmes and uninstal both mcafee and norton.

Once complete, reboot and see how you PC runs.

Assuming its working ok now, go back to your control panel - security centre - enable windows firewall.

Go online to "Filehippo.com" and download and istall the free version of AVG (anti virus software) once installed let it scan your system.

Then go back to Filehippo.com, download and install Ccleaner. This has loads of tools, :-
1) Cleaner clears all the tempory internet files of your pc.

2) Startup - you can reduce the number of programes you want th start up when booting.

You don't need any here because you can access all programmes via start but I'd leave AVG and any securtiy related to start and delete the rest. But its probably better to just disable the rest until you're happy with which programmes auto start.

Good Luck

Slow computer

Norton is a huge resource pig. Back in the mid 90's I swore by norton. Now, however, i dont like it. Try uninstalling it and going with Kaspersky, or for a free option, Comodo Internet Security, which has 5 stars from cnet.

I can,t get delete norton 360 out of my uninstall

Go to reboot, before the Windows XP Screen shows up, continue to press F5 - When a list of options comes up, press - Safe Mode - windows will continue to load. When the initial screen comes up, press No -

Windows is now running in a *Lite* mode - Try uninstalling Norton in this mode, as windows is running in a *Lite* mode, the norton files should not be in use anymore. When the norton files are in use, Windows has trouble uninstalling Norton.

Just to make sure - Are you running Windows XP? If this solution does not work for you, there are a handful of other things to try.

I'm having problems with WindowsXP loading at start-up

I don't think you have a virus, Norton 360 is a very good antivirus program and would have caught it. Try disabling all of the Norton 360 features then load the Windows XP disc. Sometimes anti-virus programs interfere with the processs. I am assuming you have the Windows XP original disc. This should work.
