Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

Connection of Playstation (PS2) to Digital TV

I bought a lead similar to the one you suggested. However it only works if I connect the S-Video lead, just connecting the 3 phono connectors alone does not work at all. If I connect the S-video it works, but there is no sound. It does not help that the TV sockets are a different colour to the cable. I connected the one labelled to the yellow plug; does it matter which way round the other two are? Many thanks for your assistance.

I think that the audio/video cables only work when s-video is not used at the same input. In other words if you use video 1 as a s-video input, you can't use the video port on video 1 with a video cable. Also, when you hook up s-video you must use a/v cables as L) and R) audio along with it. It really doesn't matter in which order audio cables are either. Hope this helps, Russmann.

When I plug system in, red light shows that system is receiving electrical power. However, system wont read game or turn on.

Causes: 1. You've made the wrong connection to your TV
2. You didn't make a connection to your TV
3. At worst, your TV isn't compatible with your PS2 (PAL/NTSC issue)

Remedy: 1. Check your connection with your TV. If you have a S-Video cable
connection for your TV and your PS2, check it properly so that
video cable from your PS2 is at the Video-in port in your TV. If
this doesn't work. Go to #3.
2. You probably got excited. =) Connect your TV to your PS2 by
following the instructions in your manual.
3. This is an issue. First, before buying a PS2, you should know
what type of TV you are using. It's either PAL or NTSC. PAL TVs
are most likely to be found in the European countries. As for
NTSC, it's the most common between the 2 and can be found in the
US and the rest of the world. Now, make sure that your PS2 is
compatible with your TV. Or else, you might get weird pictures
in your TV. And at worst, your TV might be damaged.

Since you're playing in a PAL region, it sounds to me like you're using the wrong connection for your system. You don't need to buy an SCART adapter for your cable, but if you pick up an RGB cable for your PS2 instead of composite, you should be fine. This is assuming you don't have a composite connection somewhere on your TV. Component (Y/Pb/Cr) would also be a good option. I can recommend a store here in the US, but I don't know if they ship internationally. The linked item is an S-Video cable, which will work well if you have an S-Video connection available. You can look for the other options on the site. Good luck!

Set it on video mode, or check the connections to the TV.

My slim PS2 was working just fine, all of the sudden it has no picture. I can hear sound of the game, but a blue screen for picture. I bought a lens cleaning disk and ran that, but not any better. Any...

It could easily be the wires. They may not be plugged in, or you can also try pushing the connection to the PS2 in harder. I have troubles with that connection. You might also have to buy new wires. I'm sure that it's not your lens.

Try another AV cable, recheck your connections and just try it straight to the TV first without using the sound system and see what happens.

Flickering tv screen when playing playstation games.

I don't think it's a configuration problem at all. I do think that the set is not adjusting to the correct format. Most Stores have 30 day return policy. If it's over 30 days then they may not take it back. If you bought it online, then, the return may be difficult. If the return is not possible, then, contact Toshiba online and find a local Toshiba authorized servicer in your area. Hope this helps.
