Lens Hi, my camera is perfect and I love it very much. Now one little problem, when I turn it on, the lens wont just open it, stays closed unless I open it manually which I think is not good. Now what do u think is the problem? Thanks, Jane.

    Hello,

In what way do you have to open the lens manually? You pull them out or you just apply some pressure near the lens barrel?

I need this information to better understand the problem.

Hi

What you are seeing is there is some sort of problem with the lens, it could happen in many different ways such as sand or dirt in the lens gears. If the camera is less than a year old, call up Sony and get it fixed under warranty.

A few other solutions would be to tear it down and clean it yourself and see if that clears up the problem, or buy a defective camera online and make one good camera from the two if you can do that sort of thing yourself, or have it repaired by somebody else.

Don't bother trying to send the camera to Sony if it is out or warranty (though you can call them and verify what I'm about to say) because they will want $150+ to do the repair for you. Parts are not cheap to buy from them.

I know of one very affordable digital camera repair business... because I own it. The name is Darntoothysam, feel free to check us out, we are on that big auction website also (I don't plug their name for free), our seller ID is 'darntoothysam'. If you Google "darntoothysam" you will find us.

We have your repair listed as a package in our store for about $70. This covers a new lens, and return shipping of your camera! We even give a 45 day warranty on parts and labor. If you think you can use us then please check us out, even if you need to ask more questions then please feel free to contact me.

Hope this helps,

Thomas

Kodak Easy Share Z1275 stuck lens

I have a Kodak 1275. Green light would go on the off and lens was stuck open. Now for solution that worked for me. Get a can of compressed air, like what you use for computer keyboards. Blow the compressed air all around your stuck open lens, not to fast and switch directions of where you blow air around stuck opened lens. Make sure batteries are fresh and fully charged. Tap your camera against the palm of your hand twice, not to hard or you may damage instead of jarring lens lose. Next lay your camera on a table lens facing up, push power button on so camera will try to auto focus and lens should reseat itself and lens should move freely. It doesn`t have to look dirty or dusty, little tiny particles can cause the lens to get stuck and shut off fast because it is a safety feature. If this does not work try plugging your camera into computer so the lcd screen does not try to go on , thus giving even more power to get your lens moving . Do not try to force it closed by pushing or twisting with your hand or you may cause damage that will cost as much as the camera to fix.

My lense wont extend

Hey alex2716,
This problem is usually caused by either damage to the lens, or something inside the lens is obstructing the movement of the lens (i.e. sand). You could take the camera apart and see if there is something obstructing the movement of the lens but unless you are a camera repair technician you could easily do more harm than good and it would void out any warranty the camera might be covered under. I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician, and maybe all it needs is a good cleaning. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

It wont turn on, And the zoom is extended.

I had exactly the same problem. Lens stayed open, when powered on you get three beeps and nothing. I found when I pulled the lens out a little harder it gave a little click. When I powered on it worked perfectly.

It wont close

Okay, the same happened to my camera. The lens stayed open and showed system error on a blue screen when I tried to close it. I checked if this had happened to others and found that it had, and took note of their comments.

I tried first of all pushing the lens back in whilst trying to close the door: seems to work for some but not for me.

I then tried pulling the lens out even further in case it hadn't come out all the way in the first place: didn't work either.

I tried slapping it on the palm of my hand three times quite hard and trying again to close the lens door, then repeating this a few times: seems to work for some, but again not for me.

Finally what did work: I rocked the lens back and forth gently a few times which suddenly brought it back to life - it sprang open a fraction, made the 'taadaa' noise to show it was ready and was delightfully back to normal.

Seems the lens had been stuck somehow and needed a bit of gentle persuasion to return to its normal positon. It may be the combination of all the above that finally did the trick, or just the end one. I will never know. I do know that I love this little gizmo and that it has given me five years of brilliant service. There are cheaper and better spec' camers around now, but I wouldn't trade it for any of them, so its really lovely to have it back up and running.

Hope this works for you and anyone else it may happen to.
