Hello,

You need a Molex power plug (same as for your standard IDE hard drive or DVD drive to an 8pin adapter. A common product. If you can't get it locally.

Without this the board won't boot as there is insuffcient power on the motherboard to drive your display adapter.

Here is the link to the product at crazypc.com.

Also, if you have onboard video too, make sure the bios setup pages have the property set for primary display adapter to Add-in/PCIe.

Worldvet

No your mouse and keyboard won't communicate until on boot the OS has loaded the drivers for the communication receiver attached to your PC.

You don't have to install drivers for the these to work unless you have windows 98, unless you have multimedia keys on your keyboard you want to associate them with special functions; this is most true if you have a Microsoft keyboard and mouse setup as those are built in along with Logitech.

Once your transceiver is plugged into USB and you sync the channels everything will work after the OS is completely in place.

When I have to setup a new PC I usually use a PS2 Keyboard and Mouse to get the OS installed and then in this order you install the display driver first and then a USB Mouse and Keyboard, but we techs always use a method and you will want to follow that too. If you have a PS2 keyboard and mouse and have just built a system use those to get the OS setup and activated, install the updated Display drivers, next the other devices usually the network drivers and then we add one device card after another rebooting and installing those drivers one at a time. Thats how we do it.

If you add all device cards at once it hard to pin down a problem. This we all learn from the doing over the years, 20 in my case and most all techs on this board will agree who have the same amount of experience.

Be aware there are many techs on this board who we still consider rookies with less than 10 years experience. Most of us have Linux setups and own at least four computers and at least one laptop usually two or more.

So anyway, any more questions just ask away using the comment box and if you want to confer with another tech on this thread I'll invite one in who has the reputation and experience where we can both get you going if you want to consult with more than one of us... we don't care. We're only here to help someone like yourself get your first build done right the first time and not have to learn by mistake.

That is hard to comment on and I apologize for not getting back earlier. My business had me out of the home most of the day.

Your optical disc drive bay should open whenever power is on. There is a hold in the tray this is meant for a straightened Paper Clip of heavy weight to be pushed in, you will feel resistence and then a release at that point use the other end of of the paper clip to open the drawer, then use the button to close it. That may resolve a stuck gear.

You could be attaching the cable upside down, but that isn't the only thing as you probably have it right, its worth double checking.

At the back of the DVD player is a jumper that can be in one of three positions with a guide stamped on the top of the housing. They are Master, Slave and Cable Select.

On your new system I would set it at Cable Select (CS) and or depending where on the cable its attached. At the end of the cable you set it to Master, if its the second (middle) connector you set it to Slave. Some times these things matter and sometimes they don't. I'd check it at the board also. But today all these cables are keyed so you don't get it upside down, but its worth a look. And, I'd connect the DVD player to the end connector and jump the pins for Master and see it that works.

By the way, its getting late here and I'm about to fall asleep. So I may not get back to you until late tomorrow as I have a lot of outside calls to make on peoples computers here where I live.

    Good night,

@ vinay2412 - YES you need a PSU wil either the 4 or 8 pin molex connector to power the motherboard correctly

the lightscribe drive will not read a DVD or CD until you boot the PC correctly

the wireless k/b will not work until you load the drivers etc. you need a PS2 or USB k/b to get thing going first until the OS is running and you can install drivers

@ shaikh27

your error suggest you need to load drivers from the motherboard driver CD. do you have this?

SOURCE: I want to buy a new rig , main purpose is to use

The processor is too weak - get at least an i5, best would be a quad core i7; the hard drive will be filled faster than you thing - bigger is always better; get some faster memories - at least 1666 MHz, 4 GB is bare minimum, get a 64bit OS and 8 GB for real performance; the power source is at the limit - for best result get one of 600W; as for the video card the best for photoshop is Nvidia Quadro CX, even ATI Fire will be better than any gaming card.

This motherboard has 1 PCI Express x16 slot for a graphics card.

You could use:
Geforce 6 series (6800GT)

Geforce 7 series (GeForce 7950, GeForce 7900, GeForce 7800, GeForce 7600 ,
GeForce 7300, GeForce 7200 and GeForce 7100)

Bios don't boot on p7n platinum sli

check the voltage on the power connector going to the hard disk.
it should have 12volts in red and black wire and 5volts on the yellow and black wire.

the main problem the optical and hard disks can't be recognized is the low voltage supply the drives gets.

No beep,No Display on my monitor, only CPU heatsink fan is moving

You motherboard has onboard video. It's possible it needs to be disabled and the option changed to use the pci or pci-express slot for the Ati card you installed. Since you have no post error beeps this is the best place to start. Also I had built a system not to long ago and had a similar problem. Resetting the cmos on the motherboard (usually a pin combo) solved the issue.

Start by hooking up your vga cable to the onboard video.

Hope this helps.

Hi playboyalive, to answer your question! (Yes) the,
XFX nForce 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard will support Intel's core i7 extreme edition multi-core 3.2GHz CPU. The board can go higher. The highest tested by XFX is Intel's 3.73 GHz multi-core CPU. You can see all supported CPU's at the XFX link below;
http://www.nvidia.com/content/nforce700i/nForce_Intel_CPU_List.pdf

The above link was opened from this XFX link; http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_nforce_790i_ultra_sli_us.html

try running a memmory test on your memmory. I use "Hiren's Boot Disk" to run these kinds of checks. If your RAM has any problems, it will show it.

Also, does the game crash and return you to your desktop? Or does the PC reboot? Or does it Blue Screen?

It also "might" be incompatability?

No signal to monitor when booting.

(1) Remove memory from mother board and start the system if you happen to listen long beep then RAM is not working properly.
(2) Clean RAM conducting area on mother board with clean cotton cloth, put one peice of RAM and test and check the othe peice also, if working you could any sign display . Before doing all these check mother board any LED is glowing if so your SMPS is working after you turn on UPS.

(3) Check for all proper connection for all cables. Have you connected video cable of monitor to mother board VGA (it will not work because it is disabled as soon as you installed XFX GeForce 8800 GT), your viedo output only will come through XFX GeForce 8800 GT VGA port.

(4) If propelm persits Deassmble complete the system and reassmble & do n't connect HDD, DVD, floppy. Cehck with bare mother baord, processor, RAM (put one picese at a time) by connecting viedo cable of monitor
