This motherboard or charging circuit in the laptop has been damaged, with the video problem I would go with a motherboard that is fried, so either replace the motherboard or charging circuit board or buy a new laptop

I turned my PC off and it never came back on, screen is black, any ideas?

Check all connections. Unplug them and plug them back in to make sure they are making connection. Some screens will have two cords plus plug it into electric outlet.

If your computer is running look for a switch on the monitor to turn it on.

I have a problem with my notebook: HP compaq 610. When i try to turn it on without the charger (using the battery) the screen goes black after the PC loads the operating system. I can see the the des

Take the battery out, plug in the charger and see if the laptop works. If it works, the battery may be the problem. Check the AC Adapter
Check to make sure the adapter is plugged securely into the wall outlet, connected firmly to the adapter box and to the back of your laptop. Most AC adapters have a little light in them on that rectangular box in the middle of the cord that lights up when it's getting electricity. If that light isn't on, try a different outlet. Check your fuse or circuit breaker box and plug a different device into that outlet to make sure there is power to it. If it still does not light up, your adapter could need replacing. Also check the adapter box for signs of warmth, as it will generate heat when it's plugged in. No heat means no power.

Remove the Battery Sometimes it's as simple as a seated battery. Remove the battery entirely and clean out any dust, lint or hair that may be clogging the connectors and preventing a proper connection. Reseat the battery securely and make sure the little locking pins that hold your battery in place are securely fastened and there is no movement. WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source. Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards Check all power and data leads from motherboard to hard drive and all of your cd/dvd drives make sure connections are secure dust free and not faulty computers need all power and data to travel through every working device and to finish its cycle so any faulty lead will end in computer error or shutdown / fail to boot or to reboot on a cycle make sure your computers RAM modules are securely seated with no dust in the sockets also the Cmos battery has charge and seated with no dust in the sockets. some Motherboards Cmos batteries are soldered in.

Hope this helps.

Hp pavilion dv7-4165dx black screen

A blacked-out screen doesn't necessarily indicate a broken monitor.
If the computer has run out of charge or is in hibernation or sleep mode,

if the screen is too dark, or if the display cable has come disconnected from the motherboard, the screen may appear black or fail to turn on.

To fix a blacked-out laptop screen, troubleshoot the screen settings, check the LCD connector and see if the computer is awake and receiving power.

Touch the touchpad or move the external mouse to see if the computer is asleep or hibernating. If the computer fails to respond, press "Enter" on the keyboard.

Press the power button if the screen remains black.

Confirm that the power indicator light, found at the front of the computer or above the keyboard, is glowing solid green or blue.

Confirm that the power adapter is plugged into the computer and into a wall outlet. Confirm that battery indicator light is glowing solid green or blue.

Hold down the "Fn" key. Press the up-arrow to see if the screen brightness increases.
Some computers also use the "F6" or "F7" keys to increase screen brightness.

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off the laptop.
Remove the AC adapter from the computer, close the screen, and then turn the PC over.

Slide the battery latch to eject the battery. Pull the battery out of its compartment.

Turn the computer back over, open the lid, and insert the edge of a flathead screwdriver or other flat, solid object beneath the bezel above the keyboard.

Wedge the edge of the keyboard bezel off of the top cover.
Work your way along the edge of the keyboard bezel to loosen it.
Pull the bezel off the laptop.

Trace the cable coming from the laptop screen to the connector found beneath the bezel. Reconnect the display cable to the motherboard if the cable has come loose from the connector.

Line up the tabs on the bezel with the slots along the top of the keyboard. Insert the right edge of the bezel into the gap above the keyboard, and then push the bezel back in place.

Turn the computer back on. If the laptop screen is still blacked out, connect an external monitor to the video port on the side of the PC to confirm that the video card isn't defective.

If the external monitor works, the LCD screen could be broken.

If the monitor doesn't work, the motherboard or video card might need to be replaced.

Hope this helps

Ok I recommend having a look through my tip entitled My Computer is not turning on!!! Is it dead!!! No POST!!! it is all explained here, should be easy to follow. Also if your PC is under warranty then return it and they will sort it out for you, normally at no additional cost.

My compaq laptop powers up but the monitor stays black i tried to plug it in a monitor and nothing.

Unfortunately..your display may be shot...Is it a Compaq Presario? These laptops have a history of display problems...I have a Compaq Presario R3000 and the display is showing a reddish color in the left bottom corner of the screen and my brother had a similar problem with a Compaq laptop where the monitor stopped working....Unfortunately it would cost more to replace the monitor than to buy an Apple MacBook...
You can buy a cable and attach the laptop to a desktop monitor and it will work although you will lose the mobility of the laptop which is what makes a laptop so appealing.
If your laptop has a NVidia graphics card you can go to display in control panel and set it up to use Plug & Play Monitor but you may need to use safe mode or you wont be able to see anything because your screen doesn't work....You might get lucky and when you plug in the cable (just like you would to attach a PC tower to a monitor), it will work and you will be able to make the monitor the dominant screen.

How can i fix my laptop black screen? I can hear it coming on, but no image on the screen.

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • AC adapter
  1. 1 Check the power source. While you have presumably already attempted to turn your laptop on and off, the problem may lie with your AC power adapter. Is the power-indicator light on the adapter on? If not, your problem may lie here. However, whether or not you have a power indicator light on your adapter, consider unplugging it and plugging it into another outlet. This may turn on your laptop and take care of your blank-screen problem.
  2. 2 Check your brightness settings. While it seems like a simple oversight, the brightness on your laptop may sometimes be turned all the way down. Thus, the screen appears to be black, off or defective, when the problem is simply that the brightness is on its lowest setting. To fix the brightness, check your laptop keyboard. Most laptops have the brightness settings mapped to two keys at the top left of the keyboard, accompanied by a symbol (often a sun). Use these keys to fix your brightness, but keep in mind that some laptops require that you press the Function key at the same time as the Brightness key.
  3. 3 Check the status of your laptop battery itself. There should be a battery indicator on the laptop that is connected to the battery. This indicator is either on the bottom of the laptop or (likely) on the side. If there is no indicator, your battery itself may be the problem, and may require replacing. Keep in mind that older batteries of the nickel-cadmium variety are more likely to decharge over time and forget their initial maximum charge level; this may be a particular issue to users of older laptops.
  4. 4 Find a VGA connector and hook up your laptop to an external monitor if the above steps have not alleviated the blank-screen problem. Turn on the computer and the external monitor. Does the external monitor light up? If so, the blank screen is likely due to a video subset problem/LCD problem in your laptop.

Dead, the cap light does not lite just dead

No fans , No lights, No sound?  Unplug computer and plug something else into outlet to see if the outlet works. If it does the look where the electric cord plugs into the computer , There is a switch . Make sure the switch says 1, not 0. If that doesn't help either have the power supply checked or substitute another one to see if that may be the problem.

I have a crappy HP pavillion dv6000 laptop, after working fine on shutdown last night, i turned on this morning and it would not boot up. the lights on the volume bar lit up, flashed, and went off...thats...

It's acting like the juice is drained in the battery. Are you sure it's charged? Do you have a spare battery you can swap out?

Some of them come with two. I actually have the same series laptop (a Pavilion dv6258se, 6000 series), and they can be a little flaky.

I also had an issue where my HP power cable (that connects the laptop to the wall outlet) was faulty, and needed to be replaced, because it stopped charging the battery. I ended up purchasing a generic replacement power cable on eBay.
