You can fix it yourself, take the potentiometer (also known as reohstat) out.You will need to open the machine and take the knob off to free it out. You can take the old potentiometer to any electrical shop, or go to your nearest welding shop/store I will recommend praxair store.

Switch doesnt change speed runs on hight

Only between zero and full speed high speed > replace switch inside or sometimes outside the switch there is a mosfet broken if its outside mounted on a metal heatsink laying against the motor with a 3 wire black or a 3 wire black, blue, yellow wire that little parts is damaged sometimes its separate to find in a shop but replacing a switch is not a very hard job. a switch suggestion let you see a replaceable mosfet on this side the heatsink with mosfet regulator on the side of the switch.

My kitchen aid will work up to speed 4 or 5 but then stops after this. Ive never had this problem before. its happening with all the attachments.

It sounds like a problem under the back cover, maybe a broken wire on the speed controller plate. If you take the cover off to look please remember to unplug it first. If it isn't a broken wire I would be looking at the switch contacts on the inside of the speed control plate operated by that flat rid from the speed control lever.

No heat or variable speed on steinal heat gun

No heat- broken or burnt element wire ( a coiled spring like wire element) May have broken of where it screws on to the circuit.Check for burn marks inside the housing. No variable speed- faulty/burned switch or riostat.

I have a Hampton Bay 3 speed fan. Replaced the switch that was broken but cannot get the speeds to switch correctly. fan will not turn off. and the speeds does not change. I have switched the wires around...

Most likely you have the wrong switch. You ncan't go to Home depot or Lowes and buy a generic switch off the rack and expect it to work (no matter what they tell you)Call Hunter & order switch #6378401000. 1-888-830-1326

I have a ceiling fan switch (Westinghouse 77075) that was broken, so I do not know where the wires (black, gray, yellow and purple) went. The speeds are black+gray+yellow, black+gray+purple, and...

I can offer resources:

1) Test switch that was removed, and test for hot connection to narrow down options.

What speed was fan stuck in when switch was removed? Let's say medium speed.
Which connection at fan is hot? Use voltage tester to find hot connection at fan, and match that up with wire-color on switch that was removed.
One and only one wire on 3-speed fan switch connects to hot. And the hot wire is the only wire that connects to each other wire as switch cycles through pull-chain sequence. All pull chain switches follow same sequence: off, low, medium, high.
Let's say old switch was stuck in medium, and you know which color wire connects to hot.
Test switch with continuity tester to see which wire(s) have continuity with hot wire: some switches, it will be 2 wires, and other switches it will be 1 wire. Match where wire(s) were connected, and map that to tests on new switch.

Just replaced broken pull 3-speed switch. Fan now only runs on two speeds, need wiring diagram please

I ran into this when replacing the 3 spd switch. The replacement switch has a pair of connections at each position; you would assume the two connections are electrically tied together, they are not. The switch assembly actually has two seperate 4-position rotary switches. If your "L" wire is on the 'inner' connection, then your motor speed wires will have to be as well.
