Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. I have repaired several of these units and it boils down to changing the drum bearing, felt and sometimes the glide. Use this diagram:

Bearing is item 12
Drum Felts (2ea) are item 23 and 24
Glide is Item

If the link does not work go to this link: http://www.searspartsdirect.com Type in your model number FLSE72GC_ _ _ _ and then use model search where it says find it fast near the top of the page.

Changing the parts above would be what any in home service tech would to resolve your clothes getting caught up issue.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Maytag gas dryer about 10 years old leaving black smudge marks on clothing. The wheel was hanging up on the dryer drum. Could there be other causes for the smudge marks?

your clothes are getting caught between the drum and the rim due to bearings out of the wheel guides. These guides are what the drum rests on when it is turning. Most dryers you can access these guides by taking the front off the dryer. Not a big expense just a little difficult to get to .

My ge dryer is hanging clothes around the drum and leaving them black. mostly wash cloths at a corner. it has a squeak like a cricket.

Hello darrellandru, the problem is most likely going to be the drum slides. On the top drum bering, there are four plastic strips, the drum sits on these strips and those strips are what the drum rides on. You may also have problems with the drum gasgket (the felt that is on the bottom plastic drum bering).

Articles of cothing get caught between the rotating drum and the frame--I'm sure these are not the correct structural terms. Too often, when I open the door, something will be caught and hanging, and I...

Your drum seal between the drum and the body of the dryer needs replacement, this is what causes the clothes to stick and tear holes in them.
I hope this helps

Dryer only works when the door is open

Hi,
  • Your dryer may use rollers, or wheels, to support the rear of the clothes drum. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rollers wear out, you need to replace the whole set.

  • Your dryer may have a felt-like seal at the rear of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, clothes can get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rear seal wears out, you need to replace it.

  • Your dryer probably uses nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the glides wear out, you need to replace them as a set.

I am having a problem with my Ge dryer catching my clothes somewhere in the front by the top of the door it rips the clothes when trying to get them free can you help

it may be snagging clothes on a sharp edge or flashing on the plastic light assembly overhead of the door. you might just need to take a small piece of fine sandpaper and remove the burr or sharp edge thats snagging stuff..

also one or both of the rollers in the front may be worn, allowing the drum to bear down on the seal more, opening a gap at the bottom to grab your clothes then pulling them around with it, you just happen to catch it when its stopped and sitting still just hanging there.. while u have it apart u might as well check the rest of the rotating parts out for wear, etc and replace while you have it opened up..
hope this helps,
best of luck,
ttfn

Frigidaire Dryer. Clothes are damaged by either being ripped when caught on dryer drum. Clothes also are marked with hard to remove rub marks.

Open the dryer door. Reach in just inside and feel for the felt seal that goes all of the way around the drum. The culprit is usually the top portion of the seal which supports the end of the drum near the door is worn out. This allows the drum to tip down and leaves a gap at the bottom. Clothes get caught in this gap and get rubbed and marked or rubbed clear through. Remove the front of the dryer and replace the seal. On some models the top 1/3 is replaceable. This portion carries the weight of the drum and is what wears out.

I'm getting burn marks on clothes. Think it's the seal on the back of dryer? Must hang to dry all white clothes, so what's the point o fhaving a dryer?

The gasket between the drum and the back panel may be worn or missing.  I had a similar problem with a 34 year old dryer when the felt gasket wore out and allowed metal-to-metal contact between the drum and the back panel.  The clothes would get pinched between them and make a black "kiss" mark.

My dryer is destroying my clothes,

There is a gap between the lip of the drum, and the dryer housing. Usually the gap is not large enough for clothes to get caught up..
I think the drum should be removed, and the drum bearings checked for excessive wear. This can cause it. There are like 6 rubbing blocks at the front, that the lip of the dryer runs on. This is what I mean by bearings. There will also be a single drum bearing at the back of the drum, check this also for wear or damage.
Hope this helps.

Black carbon/soot on the door and lint filter of my dryer

I have the same problem with a Maytag Performa gas dryer. My husband took our dryer apart and found that the burner tube which leads from the burner to the back of the dryer was full of soot (which was getting blown back into the dryer drum with the hot air.) We are cleaning it out now but would like to know how to prevent this from recurring in the future.
