My refrigerator and freezer are not working when i plug it in it sounds like something in the back is clicking on and off. is there a rest button?

one thing can cause the clicking noise, the ptc overload relay on the compressor is making this noise and needs replacing,it simply unplugs off the compressor and the replacement plugs in these are available at most appliance repair dealers

It keeps clicking trying to start, what might be the problem?

The clicking could be the start relay. If the start relay is bad, the compressor will not start and you will hear a clicking noise in 2-5 minute intervals. The clicking noise is the overload cutting the compressor off when it overheats from trying to start with a bad start relay. To find out if this is bad first unplug the refrigerator. Remove the lower rear cover from your refrigerator. Then take the cover off that is on the side of the compressor, you will see wires going to this. Now you should be able to see the start relay plugged on to the side of the compressor and unplug it. Now the best way to tell if it

If it rattles, it’s bad and needs to be replaced. If not, most of the time it’s ok. But rather than saying the compressors bad, you might want to replace it anyways because it don’t cost much in most cases (less than $25). If you replace it and it doesn’t work then the compressor is bad and you’ll need you call a repairman. (Note that compressors are very costly and are normally not worth fixing). Kenmore refrigerator 253.57192600 making clicking noise

It could be as simple as a bit of expansion and contraction of the wall panels or the damper which allows cooling to flow from the freezer to the fridge side.

Maytag refrigerator clicking noise and stopped working

How long a period of time have you noticed this noise? If it just started and the refrigerator just stopped it could have entered its defrost cycle. When the defrost heaters come on you may hear the heat causing some expansion. After a few minutes(18-22) the defrost cycle ends and the refrigerator will restart.

Side by side stopped working but clicling noises every second two.

Ok the motherboard is malfunctioning. Ive observed this exact problem before. Replace the board and all will be normal again. If you keep lettig it click and click it may finally kill that relay that you descibed to me or even worse the compressor itself.
