Question about JUMP START SYSTEM

Open Question

I can't find the 129 volt AC Household Charger for my Vector VECO 10S Battery Starter. Can I buy just any 120 volt AC Household Adapter, or do I have to stick with one made by Vector. If so, can you tell me where I can purchase one?

That was supposed to say 120 volt AC Household Charger. Thanks for your response mrfixit-jerr. I will take it to Radio Shack.

    Thanks again!

Yes, I took the Battery Starter to Radio Shack and they hooked me up with an AC Adapter and the adapter to fit into the battery to charge it.

    Thank you once again.

SOURCE: my vector power inverter needs to be reset

Inverters use high power transistors to create an A/C voltage from a D/C input. These transistors are the common point of failure when the units are not cooled properly or used beyond their rated capacity. (Actually, you should always buy an inverter that’s rating for continuous use is well below what your actual need is). What’s most likely happened is that these have shorted out and need to be replaced. Unfortunately, replacement parts alone will likely cost nearly what a new unit costs.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news; but you basically have a nice paperweight with some pretty lights and fans on it.

Go to any radio Shack, and they have this charger in stock. tell them you need a 120v. a/c input, 12v. DC 500 ma output, with the center (inside) pin positive( ).It should be less than $20.00

What specifications do i use to get a replacement charger for a Peak Charging Adapter . . . . . . . . 120 volt AC (700mA, 12 volt DC Output

Just as your information says ask for a 12 volt 700 ma charger..but seeing that yours is a 450 amp jumper..any 12 volt that fits your ac input will do the job...one more thing if you do not have a charger..just connect it to your battery and run the engine for 20 min or so it will recharge the car battery and you jumper..also you can get a lighter wire with two lighter plugs and charge it through you lighter..good luck

I need a power charger for a veco 12 pod 450 amp 12 volt jump start system .

The smart thing to do is, after using it for a jump start, leave it connected for 5 minutes and it is charged again... otherwise a normal 12 V charger will do on the clamps that go to the box... I use a 12V Stanley 25 amps when needed. But most of the time I keep it connected for 5 minutes and do not worry about it.

What tip polarity do I use to connect an after market charger?

The short answer is "The tip should be set to positive (+).

I found an old Vector VEC127Y Spotlight. It appeared to be in perfect condition but the battery was dead and there was no charger. I was able to buy a replacement battery at BatteriesPlus for $21 USD. Here is the link for the battery
REPLACEMENT VECTOR VEC127Y BATTERY
I also purchased a Universal A/C adapter to use as a charger at BatteriesPlus for $17 USD. Their site does not list it yet but here is the manufacturers link. Please note the original battery was rated 6Ah. The replacement is only rated for 5Ah. Which means one less Amp hour (Ah). Which means a shorter run time, after charging, than the original battery had. Otherwise they are equal.
UNIVERSAL AC ADAPTER
I installed the new battery. I set the AC Adapter to 6V and installed the largest of the seven adapter tips that came with the charger, with TIP set to be positive (+). I opened the battery compartment of the spotlight and disconnected both the red (positive +) and black (negative -) battery leads from the battery. I then plugged the adapter tip of the Universal AC Adapter into the spotlight and plugged the AC Adapter plug to a power outlet. With a multimeter I tested the polarity of the spotlight battery leads while charging. I was able to confirm that the Adapter TIP should be set to positive (+). After reconnecting the spotlight battery leads and setting the AC Adapter to charge, I have a perfectly great spotlight in full working order.

I lost the AC adapter for my Vector Compact Elite 300 amp jumpstarter (veco11). What output adapter should I use to charge it? I have a 12 volt that doesn't seem to work.

You need about 14 volts to charge a 12 volt battery. The original charger MAY have some form of current limiting in it.

ALSO pay attention to the polarity of the charger.
