Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P9 Digital Camera

Camera will not recognize the memory stick.....and yes, it is the same stick I always use......nothing has changed in my use or equipment........it just will not recognize the data stored on the stick.

We did try a different stick that we know to be good and the camera still doesn't read it........so does that necessarily mean the camera reader isn't working? If so, what is the fix?

It sounds like the memory stick is corrupt or the reader in the camera isn't working. I would try and use a different reader or a different stick to isolate where the problem is. If the memory card is corrupt you can try some of the software out there available for retrieving data:

What if I erased the...DMCI folder in my memory card? I can no limport my pictures in my desktop because there is nothing in my memory card..

Hi,

It is not recommended to erase the DCIM Folder in the Camera as this is the root directory in the Digital Camera which contains DCIM (Digital Camera images). This DCIM Folder contains the sub directory where the images are getting saved. if the folder is deleted manually from the Computer, then the Camera will not recognize the Memory Stick inserted and the Computer also. if the folder is deleted or edited, then I suggest you to Format the Memory Stick again in the Camera using the Format option in the Menu of the Camera.

Thanks for using Fixya.

if your struggling to load your photos onto your computer buy a universal memory card reader!
you should try and use a memory stick in a camera that needs an sd though!

Your laptap MS card reader might not be properly installed. It might have been uninstalled or corrupted, which can always happen. Try going to your control panel, device manager, then uninstall the device, and install it again. It shoudl work this time. Good luck.
