SOURCE: glow worm combi boiler
check the pilot line for an obstruction. check the millivolt generator that's supposed to keep the pilot valve open. check for a high limit control being bad.

almost any thermostat you install will have the 2 wires that you are looking at It depends on how in depth you want to get with your thermostat. Home depot will have what you need. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate my answer.

SOURCE: my boiler keeps firing up
I had the same problem. I traced it to the micro switch in the water/central heating motorised valve having shorted out.
I replaced the (Honeywell) motorised valve and it is now only running when it should.

SOURCE: I have a Honeywell ST499A/ST699B
I have an old Honeywell ST499A/ST699B thermostat. It still works OK but when we have a power cut I have to re-programme everything. Presumably this is because the battery needs replacing. I cannot find a way of opening the control box to get into the unit to replace the battery and in any case I’m not sure if the battery is renewable?

check the water pressure on the combi could be low or in the back of your manuel there is a fault finding guide which is very good and simple to follow .
