Question about Lilly Wonder Bar Mark Iii Grounding Plate
Hi, a grounding plate is put in place on the outside of your hull (on the keel) in order to protect against damage in the event of a lightning strike. There needs to be a network of metal ribbon/cable that is attached to all metallic objects throughout the vessel and then lead to the attachment points of the plate inside the bilges. This network will channel any electric surge from above the waterline to the plate and then the water itself in an attempt to prevent the strike from blowing holes in your boat! Hope this helps.
