Question about Kenmore Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore 70 Series Model 11064732400. the drum stopped turning so I took the housing off and the idler pully was laying at the bottom of the dryer. I cannot tell from the diagrams where it belongs...meaning the right position....any thoughts?

I have a Kenmore Gas Dryer (model 11087471810) that threw its belt. I have the replacement belt and know how to replace that. When I opened the bottom of the dryer, I noticed the Idler pulley sitting at...

The idler pulley/tensioner fastens into two slots in the base of the dryer to the left of the motor . The belt goes around the drum then through the idler to the motor pulley ,you have to make a loop with the excess belt and feed it through the idler pulley, i normally pull the plastic pulley towards the right side of the dryer to give enough belt to go around the motor pulley then let the plastic pulley rest on the backside of the belt. do not turn the drum too much as you may pull the belt back off .

Drum is hard to turn. When running, there is a loud high pitched squeal. I oiled the pully area in the back, and the noise stopped and the drum turned, briefly. Now, the drum doesn't turn at all. ???

if you got oil on the belt or the part of the pully where the belt rides then the belt is sliping and wont turn the drum.

you will need to get the oil off of the belt or buy a new one and you will need to get the oil off the motor pully and the idler pully and if any oil is on the drum.

This is where I would start given the information you have given.

My kenmore 70 series dryer won't run. when I push the button, it makes a sound [like it did when it would run], but the dryer doesn't catch or start running...it seems like it is trying to, but it won't...

Reach in and turn the drum. It should be very easy to turn. If it is hard to turn you need to determine if it is :
The rollers 1a29d3b.gif
The idler 181f336.jpg
If you have this crappy idler db00084.jpgchunk it in favor of the one above with a wheel. The glide band and feltd4503ef.jpg
The motor.e526c9d.jpg I have a manual

Makes squeaking noise after running for about 10 minutes

there are 2 drum rollers at the back of the dryer. shut off power, pull drum and you will see 2 rubber wheels. there is a little plastis triangle that keeps the roller in place. try spinning the rollers . they probably will not spin too freely. remove triangles ,inspect inside of roller the stainless steel bearing may have gunk on it try to clean off . also check shaft roller rides likewise remove any debri use a little rubbing alcohol to remove gunk. also check the idler roller that routes the belt for the same things. good luck

Replaced idle pulley but drum wont spin when clothes are in it

Ok, when you removed the front cover to gain access to the idler pully, did you make sure that the drum didnt slip off one of the two roller wheels in the bottom rear of the dryer. If you get one of those roller wheels jammed and not in the track right, they will jam up. Look down at the bottom, grab the rollers, and pull them forward to be sure they are in the groove of the drum. Also, are you sure you relooped the belt correctly back around the idler pully? The best way to loop the belt is to place the idler pully in the correct position, then drop the belt down in front of it, loop the belt under the idler pully, push it back to tension everything, then take the loop and go over the motor pully (should be pretty tight). See if one of those solutions will help. Also be sure that you are properly getting the drum in the right position over the front seal (front should go on pretty easily, if not, reach your hand in the door, and lift up on the drum to center). Thanks and good luck!!!!

Kenmore series 70 electric dryer idler pulley

I figured this one out...there are two pairs slots...the tab of the idler pulley goes in the right slot near the motor and the idler pulley goes off to the left.
