This is usually the dryer coils have failed. They tend to fail as they heat up. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. Here is a video on replacing the dryer coils.
You will also find videos of disassembling most style dryers at the same site.

Dryer heats up when cycle is first started, then after a few minutes there is no heat, can you help?

I have a MDG6700 with the same issue..all my research on this problem points to the 2 coils on the gas valve. Tomorrow i am going to change them (kit is about 30 bucks to get local)..coils test good but other postings about this dryer say one coil gets hot and is weak and close the gas valve thus stopping the heating process

I have a Maytag Neptune MDG5500AW that is not drying. It sometimes has heat but most of the time it does not. Can you help me diagnose the problem?

if it has heat the first 15 to 30 minutes and then no heat you have bad gas coils, they are located on the top of the gas valve, just remove the two phillips screws, remove the cover and change out the coils,

Maytag Neptune MDG 5500 AWQ heats sporatically

your dryer has a safety feature that it will not run or heat when the door is opened. It is so no gas fumes are exhauseted into your home. Once the safety is engaged, It will not allow the dryer to restart for a short while. It should clear itself after only a few minutes. Hope this helps, good luck.

Check the lint tubing and also for lint underneath the dryer. There is a blockage somewhere for this to happen. This is a built in safety feature for gas dryers that others don't have.
