Question about ASUS AAM6030VI Router

Change user name & password

I've changed ISP's and need to amend these details but the Quick Setup will not allow access to this page because it insists there is an error with the VPI/VCI setup.
It together with the WAN details have been checked thoroughly and they are all as they should be.
Any suggestions please?

I'm using Win XP and yes I have been using "Admin" "Admin" to access the router setup.

The initial page is AIM PVC configuration - click next.

The next page should be ConnectionType but all that shows is a VPI/VCI error message.

The default is 0/100 and that is as it should be.All the other WAN settings are correct.

There is no progress "next " key past this page to access the PPP User name & password page.

I think this modem is destined for the big round tin!

    Tks for your help.

The user name & password are provided to enable a home setup and its all easily done providing the router is behaving as it should.

This would be a simple mod if only the appropriate page was accessible but in this case it's not.

A full power down, factory reset has not encouraged any change at all.

Like I say,it's probably a trash can job....... these things happen even tho it's not that old.

  • spinco Jun 19, 2008

    Hi Lee

I was able to eventually fix it myself by fooling the setup sequence with a VPI/VCI change. That then allowed me access to the user name & password page where I changed the data.

I then setup another sequence with the original VPI/VCI data and was able to complete the cycle.

It was then just a matter of removing the unwanted setup and voila`.

    My ASUS lives on ..........

    Appreciate the help anyway.

"The next page should be Connection Type but all that shows is a VPI/VCI error message."

And you get the correct numbers that you need to SET it in there from the ISP.

User name "admin" (system administrator) has unrestricted access to change and view configuration of
your AAM6030VI. You may change its password by clicking the sub-menu “Local Access” of
“Management”, enter the password for user name "admin" twice and click Apply.
Let me know if that doesn't work
    Thanks,

I have already assumed that you know how to access the router. That you have a proper working internet connection. The way I read the question is you wanted to change the user name and password on the router. If that is not the case. Please clarify what you need help with. I am glad to assist you at anytime in the future.
    Thanks,
    Lee

How to put password so the neighborhood couldnt access my dlink router

Hi,
All you have to do is connect to the router and change security key/ secure the connection. Just follow the following steps: -
First you have to access the router through web browser (Internet Explorer) by typing the IP address of your router in the address bar, which is 192.168.0.1 (Default router settings are written under the router)
(unless you've configured otherwise, the default username is admin and the password "leave it blank")

Lookup for the options to do the following: -
Next step is to secure it (adding a network security key):
1.On the left-hand side, under Setup, click "Wireless Setup" Click on Setup at the top and then click Launch Wireless Security Setup Wizard. Select your desired encryption method (WEP
)
3.Choose a Network Key - it can be anything, as long as it's 8-63 characters in length
4. Click Save Settings.
Also, do the following changes: -
1. Change the SSID (Name) of the router
2. Change the default administrative user name and password
(The above steps would prevent unauthorized access to your router)

Now your router and your connection would become secure and the user has to provide the network key to access the internet. Please note down the settings such as SSID Key, User Name/Password and Security as in case you loose this information you cannot recover it back)
You may also download and refer to Page 60 onwards of the PRODUCT MANUAL DIR-625 for further information, if required

What will i do if i forgot my security key???

Next step is to secure it:
1.On the left-hand side, under Setup, click "Wireless Setup" 2.Under "Wireless Security Mode", select your desired encryption method (preferably WPA2-PSK)
3.Choose a Network Key - it can be anything, as long as it's 8-63 characters in length
4. Click Save Settings.
1. Change the SSID (Name) of the router
2. Change the default administrative user name and password
(The above step would prevent unauthorized access to your router)

Now your router and your connection would become secure and the user has to provide the network key to access the internet.

In case you have forgotten the User Name/ Password of the router, there is no way to recover the lost password However, you can reset the router to factory defaults and re-configure settings like password, network key etc. First, to reset the router to factory default setting, press the reset button at the back of the router.
creativetech_5.jpg

Please note that after RESETTING THE ROUTER to defaults, ALL SETTINGS WILL BE LOST AND YOU HAVE TO RECONFIGURE IT. Generally, after hard reset you get the connectivity, however, you have to make the connection secure etc.
Please, refer here to download the product guide/manual and make configurations as per the details provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

I want to change password for wifi network

1
Open up an Internet browser window on your computer system. To gain access to the default settings, type in the default IP address of the wireless router in your Internet browser's address bar and press enter. You must refer to the wireless router's documentation or navigate to the manufacturer's website for the correct IP address.

2
Type the default user name and password in the security dialog box that appears, then press Enter on your keyboard. Because different router manufacturers use different default user names and passwords, refer back to your router's documentation or support webpage for the correct information.

3
Navigate through the router administration pages to find the wireless router's administrator password settings. Change the default user name and password to a unique set so that possible unauthorized access to your router settings will not take place. Make sure to hit "Save Settings" to complete the change.

4
Set up your wireless security settings by navigating to the proper administration settings page. By default, wireless routers do not come with a password for connectivity access. Choose the appropriate wireless security level you need and type in a unique user name and password. Save these new settings and log out of the router's administration setup.

5
Write down the user names and passwords for both network access and the administration setup page. Keep these user names and passwords in a safe place.

Thanks.
Have a great day.

How to install and will this box allow my desktops(2 of them ) to both be connected to a wireless network?

There are 2 ways to setup Netgear
1. Setup Wizard (which guides you through a setup wizard)
2. Manual Configuration (you need to put all values in router manually)

Here we are not discussing Setup Wizard as Manual configuration is far much easier then auto configuration

To configure (config) Netgear we need to get into router page
To open router config page
1. Open Internet Explorer (Start>>all prog>>Internet Explorer)
2. Type in address bar 192.168.0.1
3. In username box type admin (where it says gateway 192.168.0.1 requires username & password)
4. In password box type password (word password itself)
After this you will find Netgear ADSL Wireless Router Setup page

Here we need to select Basic Settings (as shown below)
basicsettings.jpg

after this you will find next page as

basicsettingsscreen.jpg

Here in this page (Basic Settings Page)

Does your internet connection requires login, Select Yes
Select Encapculation as PPPoE
Login is Username as provided by your ISP
Password is your password for broadband connection as provided by your ISP
Keep Idle timeout as 0

after this simply press apply without changing anything else

Now We Need to click on ADSL Settings Page
adslsettings.jpg

Now on ADSL Setting Page We got only 3 options

adslsettingsscreen.jpg
Multiplexing Method Should be LLC-Based
VPI 0
VCI 35

now just press apply again

By this time your router should be only (you can check it by opening any website on Internet Explorer or by router status option on netgear page)

To Config Wireless

Click on Wireless Option (on left hand side blue panel)

wirelesssettings.jpg

It should display next page as

wirelesssettingsscreen.jpg

Here in this page

Wireless Network Name (SSID) Alpha-Numeric name which would be displayed as your wireless network name

Region Here Select Your Region

Channel: Select whichever channel give you best sighal (9, 11, 13 are recommended)

Keep the TIck on Enable Wireless Access Point

Keep the Tick on Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)

Can Untick Wireless Isolation

Then Jump to Security Options

Select WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre Shared Key)

then in WPA-PSK Security Encryption type in anything of your own choice but alphabets and numbers both should be there and make it between 8 to 63 characters long.
WPA-PSK Security Encryption Key is your password for wireless network

Now Press Apply and your router is ready for wireless too

After doing this you can change MTU (Maximum Transmit Unit) size to 1400 from WAN Setup Option

You can find WAN Setup Option in same blue panel on left hand side of screen

wansetup.jpg

Here you just need to change MTU to 1400 and need not to change any other setting

wansetupscreen.jpg

Now its all done and router is ready to send wireless signal to your system/laptop
