My computer fell from a few feet and won't even turn on. it makes a noise kinda of like a car trying to start but the screen stays black. i think that the driver and screen might be broken. is there any way i can fix it?
Before you can think of fixing it, ask yourself what is there to fix. open your laptop check for any broken parts on the board if its fine which i highly doubt also check whether any broken piece got into the fun. And for the monitor connect an external monitor and see what happens.

Hello,

Download the service manual for Dell inspirion 1100, 5100, and 5150 by simply click the below link.

Note that the manual is in PDF format, so you need to have Adobe Acrobat reader already installed on your computer.

Also, your computer configuration speed will determine how fast the service manual will load. Wait for the service manual to load completely before scrolling in order to avoid it hanging.

It is advice able that you print it so that you can have a hard copy. Its usually strenuous reading from the computer.

http://www.elhvb.com/mobokive/edwin/laptops/dell/INSPIRON/1100-5100-5150/1100-5100-5150.PDF

Good luck.

not to get to concerned just yet, a few tips, when you press on the top of the laptop case by the screen area in the back of the laptop do you notice the screen flickering off? and when you let go dose it come back on? if so this can be a faulty wire or bad inverter, they are actually both very simple to fix and relatively cheap fixes.
if the screen's backlight comes on then you may have damaged something on the motherboard such as the video card/adapter. if the backlight on the monitor doesnt come up it should just be a connection issue or the monitor itself is bad and you need to order the oem part and install it.
I think somehow you've turned your CD drive off in BIOS. Turn it on again (if you don't know how to do it, post yout BIOS version, I'll try to help. BIOS version shows somewhere on the screen when you just turn on your computer. For example "AwardBios v.XXXX)
Laptops have very few moving parts. Your problem is more than likely either a fan or your hard drive. Remove the hard drive, start the computer up and just let it run for awhile. If the clicking noise never comes up then thats your problem. If it does, its probably a fan.
Disregard anything on the screen itself, just let the PC run. It sounds like after the hard drive has been spinning for a minute a motor starts to die.
