Check the hard drive activity light; if it is active at power on, look at the display from an angle to see if some ghosting of images is visible.
If so, the back light for the display or its inverter may have failed.
If you have a friend you can borrow a monitor from or use briefly, connect it to the VGA (D-15 connector) to see if you have any video output. If you still see nothing, turn off the power and access the memory in the laptop. Remove and return any memory cards and try it again.
If you still have no boot, it will need technical help since this could indicate a failed motherboard or CPU.
