Fast browsing slow download!!!

I have a 2meg DSL connection using this modem, and lately i've been having a problem. the router page says the correct connection speed and i can browse at speeds that i am accustomed to, all speed tests give satisfactory readings, but when i download i can't get more than 50kB/s when i should be getting close to 180kBs and more.......it has nothing to do wit time of day, it's the same speed all the time!
Any ideas will be appreciated......

Cannot connect to Internet via router. works OK when direct connected to DSL modem. Powering off router does not help. port lights flashing very fast on router.

To be able to browse using wifi, the internet (dsl) cable should be at the number 1 port of your router and the other end should be at the modem. No other wires should be connected on the router.

Slow Speed due to router

hi there,
I had a problem, my internet was working slow on wireless and when connected with wire it use to fly like anything.
What i found from reading alot if that often people think that there router is conduction some problem after few years of usage and the signals are not omitting correctly or something.
However I got a simple solution for you all I found that the internet was absolutely fine when connected with wire.
So after doing alot of other activities i found that the FIREWALL was turned on, on both the devices i.e. My ROUTER and my DSL MODEM.
So please keep in mind usually there is not problem with the Router or the DSL modem if you feel the internet is slow please check your firewall and simply turn one firewall on either it should be routers or dsl modem.
Well this helped me and now i get good speed.
If there is anything i can help you with please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you :)

Brand-name of computer?
Model-number of computer?
Operating System?
Which web-browser (Chrome? Firefox? Safari? Internet Explorer 9?)
What type of Internet connection (office network, dial-up modem, DSL from your telephone-company, fibre-optic from your telephone-company, cable-modem from your cable-modem company)?
What speed does your ISP (Internet Service Provider) promise? (1.5Mbits/second, 5.0 Mbits/second, 100 Mbits/second)
How much RAM in your computer?
Which CPU (AMD? Intel? Pentium 4?)
Which web-sites are "slow" ('www.microsoft.com' should be *FAST* and the web-site for your local state/provincial government should also be *FAST*) ?
Your location (India? USA? Iceland?)
What other software is using the Internet? Bit Torrent? BearShare? MSN Messenger?
Is your anti-virus software up-to-date?
When's the most-recent "full" virus-scan?
Are you "sharing" your Internet connection with other "wired" and/or "wireless" devices (Xbox? iPod Touch?)? Are those devices "actively" using the Internet?

I just moved into a new apartment and I am currently attempting to use the same linksys router that I used at my old place (without difficulity). My lap top in the bottom right corner displays...

> excellent connectivity

This refers to the wireless connection between your computer & your router, not to the connection from your cable-modem (or DSL-modem) out through your ISP to the Internet.

If you use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer directly to the cable/DSL modem, do you still have "intermittent" problems?
If so, then your router (or other wireless devices, such as your neighbours' router, or your neighbours' wireless telephones that are trying to operate on the same broadcast frequency) is the problem.

So if you connect the computer directly to the modem , it works .
That means your modem is working properly. Your ISP is DSL connection. Now connect the modem to the router and the computer to the router. Open the router xet up page and change the settings of the router according to the type of connection you have.
There are 2 types of connection in DSL.
DHCP and PPPOE .

Try to look for MTU settings on the router's admin page. Since your on DSL connection, set the MTU size to 1492 and save the changes. You need to power cycle the router after that. Good Luck!

Linksys router

unplug your DSL modem. Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.

Make sure the router is connected to a DSL modem. Lately I have seen DSL modems connected to offices that are really routers. If thats the case it may not be talking because the DSL is address the gateway with the same address as the router.

The best way to test this is to see what happens when you disconnect your linksys router and type in http://192.168.0.1
in internet explorer.

If the DSL modem screen appears, it's configured as a router.

Then you will have to take the linksys router and turn it into a switch with a wireless access point. I
