Whirlpool fridge made in India. 4 years old doesn't go cold. Repair man says lost gas and cant be fixed. Says fridges made in India are a problem as they use inferior materials [ie copper piping changes to steel piping around internals and ends up rusting/corroding out. Is this true and can frudge be fixed at all? Thanks

repairer says fridge has lost its gas and is not repairable. Want to know if any means can be adopted to seal leaks internally so that fridge may be regassed. feel a 4 year old fridge should not have broken down irrepairably. It is a whirlpool metro27 270litre

yes guess you're right. case of hope burning eternal I suppose. Is it true that India manufacturer use inferior materials or is that the way of all manufactured white goods these days? I dunno.

I would get a 2nd opinion for sure, however if there is a leak, depending where it is it could not be repairable. Are there any error codes displayed? With some of the fridges if a tech is not familiar with them they tend to right them off rather than find out the real problem. If you haven't already try unpluging the unit for a bit and plug it back in. If the unit operates for a while then it may be the unit is getting stuck in the defrost mode.
Have another tech look at it before condeming the unit.

Hi,
If the problem is with the GAS only and the valve, it can be repaired. Changing the whole set of pipes and valves would not be a feasible option. Its not worth spending the amount to repair it , than to get a new one

Thanks

No is not true ,fridges can be repair, like this your problem. The problem of your fridges doesn't cool is that there is a leaking of freon gas in the ,copper piping ..steel cannot be use it react in freon gas.The only you do is to solder the leak of copper piping so gas cannot escape or change the piping. Change also the Dryer filter ,it is also can cause, problem due it accumulate solid tiny material or elements in the system.Or bring it to whirpool service center they knows well.

Hi, go for filing the gas. if pipes are rusted, u can replace it by welding the needed length.
and its not true that fridges made in india are inferier. now most of the fridge manufactures in india are multinationals. so those who adviced u may have something else in thier mind.
please find some other service people who will politely do the service work.

good luck

Hi gdowling.

yes, this is correct. If the fridge gas circuit is down to air, then regassing will not solve the problem if the piping has corroded. This is what happens when 2 metals are used together. If the piping has failed in the body of the fridge, repairs can be very difficult.

Hi,

Yes it still can be fixed. Try to seek advice from a dift repair man. There should be no problem with it as changes are just goin to be minor , as where im located {philippines}, its easy to repair those kind of issues with a fridge.

Good Luck .

It can be fixed, trust me. You don't have to repair it yourself as youl need tools for that. Dont sweat on it.Try to look for a second opinion -one who knows about your fridge and is resourceful ....

You got nothing to lose but your fridge ....if you stick on what the 1st repairman have said.

Check how much it'l cost you to get it repaired ..might be the same as buying a new one... ayt?

    Cheers

Calibration screw fridge

Try the thermostat on it's lowest setting first. If it doesn't switch off soon enough and gets too cold, you can get different thermostats from your supplier. A bottle fridge thermostat would suit.

3 1/2 year old fridge not staying cold in freezer or lower part. Food spoiled. Repair man said fridge was dying. Filled it full of feron. Said we had a leak and it could not be saved. It's only 31/2...

If there is no cooling at all , before we go further we must confirm the first step of confirming the compressor and gas pressure. So shut off the fridge and leave it off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within. Now since the service man has said there is a leak the problem can also be in the compressor or the sealed system. So it is best to take an estimate for a guranteed repair , if not it is best to scrap and buy a new one. Idesit built in fridge, compressor running, fridge doesn't seem to be cold although there is a build up of ice on back wall, happened a couple of times , if i defrost works fine for a while then back...

simple thing first make sure the door is sealing properly, unlikely to be this.

push the back wall of fridge with your hand, it should be solid.
if it is spongey it means the insulation has broken down and you need a new fridge

if not the back wall more than likely a blockage in the system, you will need a pot man out to check the system.

if this is the case and your fridge is over 5 years old dont waste money on repairing, buy a new fridge. if under 5 years def contact indesit company

Fridge running at higher than 4 degrees.

I have the same problem with my F&P fridge/freezer although I'm not sure how old it is because I bought it from my landlord when he moved out. I call the repairman who said turn it off and defrost the freezer. I turned it off last night, defrosted the freezer as there was some ice build up internally at the rear and turned it on again. It went fine, I set it at the coldest (gauge on colder) setting and this morning it was quite cold. Today I get home from work and it's hardly cold, no condensation on the lemonade or beer bottles! Will be interested to hear others thoughts before I call the repair man again. thanks, Jenny

My 6 year old ge profile fridge is not cooling.

Yes it is and many tiems a few years old fridge can fail now. It is a very good idea to check with consumer reports magazine to see what is the latest best quality frideg to get as manufacturers are looking to many new manufacturing countries to get lower prices on parts to make more profits for share holders.
Lately LG, Samsung and Whirlpool have been good models as most of their models are made in one country. Check with the local retailer to see which fridges have been the best selling and trouble free.

I have a 22 yr old top freezer fridge. I took it to my cabin last year when I bought a new one for the house. However, it does not work-get cold at all. We don't leave the electricity on when we are not at...

ok Sounds like a place i would love to go but .... First, if the trip to the cabin was very bumpy chances are it sprung a leak and lost its gas charge , if this is the case , repairing it may cost more than replacement depending on the location of the leak , if the trip up to the cabin was smooth then consider this, When moving it around to load it up did you maybe move it around suddenly , and if you did this too would cause a leak specially considering  the age of the system, chances are its lost its charge and would require leak testing and repair , here in Australia anywhere up to $ 600.00
