Question about Washing Machines

3 Answers

I just got this brand washing machine from my father, it is an old machine but still works so I was told. since the 3 weeks in my care it has broken down numerous times. I have already paid over $300 on repairs and parts (new pump) and cant afford to spend any more money on a washing machine. I am very good with electronics and handyman skills, so I need to repair it myself. My question: The agitator is not working much on spin cycle, it spins left and right at a slow pace which is not spin drying my clothes, so I'm guessing it's not washing them very well either. How can I repair it?

Hi :-) sorry I thought the model was written haha it is a Fisher and Paykel Kelvinator smart drive 701.

It stopped working so I got a repairman out to fix it, it was clogged with lint on one of the first washes we did with it, I watched him take it apart and unclog it at a hefty price.

The next day we did a load of washing and the same thing happened we called him out and he replaced the Pump at yet another hefty cost.

so now it's up to me to fix it or we will be washing our clothes in the shower from now on Haha

In am very skilled at repairs but cant figure out how the agitator works.

    your help is greatly appreciated

    Mitch :-)

Hello
Before I can look any problem with this machine I need the make and the model number, I would like add that the parts to fix this problem could be very expensive and you can buy a new top loader basic machine for around $399.00 you need to ask yourself when to stop the flow into the money pit, I would not be doing my job if i didn't mention this to you.

If you decide to go ahead and try and fix this I will need a list of what has been repaired on this up to this problem so I can eliminate making redundant repair suggestions.

After I posted my comments I saw the make and model in added comments by you, and based on the model you have a defetive washer transmission, replace the washer the part is over $200

I am a little confused by your question . The agitator is only supposed to freewheel in the spin mode it just spins with the drum,, the spinning drum is what gets the water out of the clothes through centrifugal force. Now if its not agitating properly in wash mode that could be worn out agitator cogs in the upper part of the agitator which are very easy and cheap to repair or if the bottom part of the agitator is not working you may have a transmission issue,But i don't think that's your problem. If you go online and look under appliance parts with your model number you can find these upper agitator repair kits and do it yourself for around 10.00 dollars Good Luck

    Hello again,

Thanks for the prompt reply, sorry I couldn't respond as quickly. With the info you've provided I will need to direct this to one of the other experts here at "FixYa" since I don't work on Fisher Paykel machines...at least not enough to be considered an expert by any stretch.

If you want to re-post your question and just decline my suggestion it will redirect you back to the unanswered post's. You don't need to rate any of my info since I wasn't able to provide any, just re-post your question.

Sorry once again I couldn't help. Good luck going forward.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

Is this machine a front loader,I bet you have a clogged drain pump.
Try this with no cloths in unit put Draino-Max Gel. Add about 1/3 of bottle and let it stay in washer about 2-3 hrs. now shut door and start machine put on heavy-duty hot-water.this may take a few times, but this well take care of dog hair ,strings and also sanitize machine after. After machine starts to run better, bleach machine every other week.

My Servis M6725 washing machine gradually fills with water even when it is switched off. We have tried changing the inlet valve but it still happens.

this is very comon review
decided to buy a Service M6725 machine. I bought one from Argos 'express delivery'. Installed it in a matter of minutes and did a cleaning wash. From then on the machine refused to work. Argos kindly replaced the machine (with the same model) and all seemed fine for a couple of weeks and then for no apparent reason the spin cycle would not perform. Yesterday a Service engineer arrived to 'sort' out the problem. He told me that the no spin was because of an unbalanced load and the machine was working correctly and left me to try more washing. Same result. House full of dripping washing and an angry wife. I am replacing the machine with another brand. ...
