I have a Ryobi R-151 router with an 8mm collet, I cannot find and router bits with 8mm shanks, is their a 6mm collet, or adaptor available for this model? Regards Pete

There are 8mm to 6mm adapter sleeves available. If you take the collet along to a power tool store they may be able to supply you with a suitable 6mm collet. I can't find what type of collet is in the router, but I'm betting it is a ER-11 type in that size range.

Router bits wont fit on my router collet nut is to small.

The two sizes (in the US) for router bit shanks (and collets) are 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch. Some routers use only a 1/4 inch collet. Routers with a 1/2 inch collet also come with a 1/4 inch collet. You need a 1/2 inch collet to hold a 1/2 inch shank. Good luck.

I have problem with my collet in my router. As soon as I tread the nut on the collet squeezes to the point I can't get a bit in. If I put the bit in the collet then try to tread the nut on it will not...

Never tighten a router collet empty. This will bend the collet smaller and it will be too tight.
Simply replace the collet. Call the Mfg the collet may be off specs a few thousands of an inch.
When not using the router store the nut loose on the threads enough it doesnt fall off.

I have a brand new Ryobi router model ERT241200. Am I supposed to insert the 1/4'' collet into the cavity where the collet nut is, then insert the bit into the collet and tighten the collet nut? I thought...

Do you have the collet upside down? It should fit in nicely and the lock nut fit over the top, no problem, If it doesn't, something is wrong. They only make 2 sizes of collets for router bits, 1/4 and 1/2 , if they get their parts from somebody who makes just collets, you could have easily gotten a different size in there. See if a router bit will fit the hole, then go to the store where you bought the router and ask them to try it in your router and see if it fits, they might have collets on the shelf. Check it out.

How to connect 1/2 inch router bit into dewalt router

Are you asking how to put a router bit with a 1/2 inch shank into a router with a 1/4 inch collet? You need a 1/2 inch collet. Most routers with a 1/2 inch collet can also use a 1/4 inch collet. But smaller routers cannot use a 1/2 inch collet.
If this isn't clear, please ask again.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Collet on Freud router won't release bit

a new collet won't hurt, but you may try sanding down the inside of your existing collet with 120 - 180 grit sandpaper. also, buff down the router bits

any condensation or moisture that may have gotten on these items can cause almost invisible oxidation that you can remove easily by sanding. DO NOT USE WD40!!!

How does one change from one collet size to another size. My Freud router came with the 1/2" collet installed and I need to change to the 1/4" size supplied with the router to fit a bit I want to use....

I just did this on my black and decker router. You need to unscrew the nut that holds the collet and remove it altogether. Then slip out the collet in there and replace it with the new size. Take care to notice how it goes in when you take the old one out. Then rescrew the nut that holds it in place and tighten. My router had three collets and only one of them works for each size, so if it doesn't tighten properly, it may be the wrong size. Good luck.

Slipping Bits

Any time I have ever come across this problem over the years the cause of it is a damaged collet due to overtightening. The solution is to replace the cone shaped piece ( the collet ) and take care not to overtighten in the future.
