Losing TV picture, screen goes blank,

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

Tip

I've been unable to play several bought VHS tapes of films, though oddly,...

Vcr's commonly get dirty heads that cause a blue or snowy screen and no sound in some cases. In my experience the rental tapes were common point of trouble especially when you consider the amount of machines that were deployed in use back in those days. Today people run into less issues because they have there own collection and put them to good use. In order to deal with some people's problems there are three approaches to cleaning heads, the first option is to use a wet tape with the provided fluid usually two or three drops will do and run it for ten to twenty seconds. The second approach is use a dry tape with same amount of time as outlined above. The third approach is get a blank store bought tape "T120 2hours" set the vcr to sp and run the tape from beginning to end, this is a good way if you want do more of a deep clean to remove difficult dirty particles that refuse give way. I find the dry tape will give less problems when cleaning and less chance of shredding and easier for people who don't like taking vcr's apart.

Video on my Sony VCR (SLV-780HF) goes gray after playing a tape a few seconds. What could be the problem?

The only real cure will be to clean the video head. If that doesn't work then I'm afraid that whatever recorded you EP mode tape was not set up well tracking wise. So other machines struggle to track the tape. Some VCR's will only playback SP or LP tapes and don't have EP mode. In which case you should check to see if these VCR's can play the EP tape and if they can't find one that can.

My VCR won't play my movies! The tapes are fine its just when I put the tape in it just shows a scraggly screen. Everything is plugged in but my movies won't play. What do I do?

If the vcr is running the tape, your video head is probably dirty, try using a cleaning tape if you have one. The second option is use a brand new blank tape T120 and set the the machine to sp speed (2hr running time) and let the tape run the full course. The third option is to remove the lid of the vcr and carefully clean the video head with a swab dipped in rubbing alcohol rotating the head by hand as you proceed allowing several minutes to dry before loading your tape.

Tv goes blank for few seconds while playing games

Sounds Like the graphics chip is starting to go. Try CPR in NYC. They usually have a 1-3 day turnaround time, and are pretty cost effective. You can easily ship them your unit. They are faster and cheaper than Sony.
website is www.cpr-nyc.com
Hope it helps!

VHS won't play correctly - no picture, muffled low voices

Several things.
Check the tape, by opening the cover, to see if the tape is damaged. Look for signs of crinkling at the edges. This is often caused by the roller being worn on one of the VCR.
If it's damaged there's not a lot you can do.
If there's no damage try taking it out of the cassette box and fitting it in a new 'good make' blank tape tape box, discard the new tape in it. Still no good?
Next step, is the tape a movie/tv made by a commercial company. Or a recording on a blank tape?
Did it ever play? (if a movie) if not suspect a pirate tape report seller to FACT.
If a blank tape, try recording on a blank section. If that doesn't work and your video will record on other blank tapes. The tape has something wrong with it.
Some video recorders will play tapes with bad problems IE bad tracking, that others refuse to play, but you will either have to find one owned by a friend or buy one with that claim.

No playback on DCR-TRV103

In playback mode the lCD displays the battery time, hi8 symbol and the tape counter. all the functions work the tape will play, rewind, fast forward. The screen stays blank on playback and the tape counter stays at 0:00:00 eventhough I can see the tape turning. I also hooke the camera to my tv and I got no picture.
