Question about Seagate (ST380011A) 80 GB IDE Hard Drive

1 Answer

Total size is not 80 GB IDE Hard Drive

I have 2 hd with the sam model ST380011A 80 GB. But they have difference size ( 74.53 GB and 31.50 GB)
When I run the software Active KILLDISK for DOS v4.1.

Disk 1 has 155061 cylinders.
Disk 2 has 65530 cylinders.

Disk 1 and 2 have the same tracks/cylinder = 16.
Disk 1 and 2 have the same sectors/track = 63.

Disk 1 and 2 have the same Bytes/secter = 512.

But:
Total size of disk 1 = 74.53 GB
Total size of disk 2 = 31.50 GB

Could you please show me how to fix the disk 2 in order to get the same size with disk 1 ?

I'm so appriciate your help.
Again thanks for you time and you help.

(Before i have 2 disk with the same size, but after i used the CD Seagate software and did some things that cause this problem. Now i don't have that CD Seagate)

Hi,

Two possible solutions but both calls for another software/utility.
1. Use FDISK but you should be booting and running in DOS mode;
2. the other is Partition Magic which runs under Windows environment.

The idea is to delete the existing partition (that shows only 31.50Gb) and thereafter re-partition to the full capacity of the drive. of course doing so would erase the contents. Further, a format after the re-partition is required.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Need jumper setting for slave drive ide

If the drive is the Seagate Baracuda series, then simply remove all the jumpers from 8-pin jumper block and it will be a Slave drive.

If you want any other settings, the jumper settings are described here:
