  • pvgomer Nov 15, 2010

Yes you should be able to, if you buy one at an office store like Staples or Office depot, they usually come with the option of using a 20 pin to 24 pin for Older to newer systems.

Yes, but not any, one made as a replacement for you system.

I just replaced the psu on my gx280 mini-tower as I added an ASUS 8400 graphics card and the original psu was not powerful enough.

Here is the one I used, there are many choices..

I want to upgrade my power supply for the dell gx280 small desktop

Sorry to say that a 260w PSU is the largest PSU you will get for this system as that is all the M/B is safely rated to any higher than that and it may cause a fire or worse. I run a Dell GX270 and this is maxed out on a 260w PSU. This system will only be upgradeable to these specs :

3.2Ghz CPU ( Note they must match existing letters on CPU.
3Gb Ram under XP, 4 Gb under Vista or Win 7. ( Note win 7 will run very slowly )
256Mb PCI Card or 512Mb AGP (4X or 8X )
500Gb IDE or SATA HDD
DVD Burner max ( Blu-Ray will not work as it is too advanced ).

Even the tower model of these systems only have a 260w PSU max due to limited power rating for the M/B. Tower PSU is able to be swapped out just like any other tower but the fact remains that the M/B is only rated to 260w and if you use a larger PSU it may cause a fire or worse. I hope this helps.

Optiplex gx820 can i connect 300 watt power supply

You listed GX820 and GX260.

I am assuming you meant the GX260.

There are three varieties of the Gx260.

1) The SFF (Small Form Factor) power supplies can be replaced, but I know of no upgrades for these.

2) For the SDT (Small Desk Top), you can get up to a 270 (best I have seen).

Example of where to get one.

For the Mini Tower, here is an example of a 400W replacement. There may be others for this model.

I have a GX280 Mini Tower and recently upgraded my PSU to one very similar to the one above.

I am looking for a schematic for a Dell Optiplex GX280 power supply. The supply is model HP-U2106F3.

I just replaced my GX280 power supply (mini-tower) with the following 400W for $30.

The only place I can think you will find an actual schematic for the PSU is from the manufacturer.

Dell gx280 no post cpu fan spins on max

What have you tried so far? Whenever I deal with a no post issue.

1. Disconnect all the connection at the back of the computer tower and power cycle it by pressing the power button of the tower for 15 seconds and plug the power cord back in and the monitor only.
2. If no post didn't occur, plug the devices one-by-one until you see the faulty device
3. if none of the external device causes the problem
4. We'll have to open the computer tower and reseat the video card, hard drive, memory, cpu power supply.

doing things one-at-a-time is the best thing to isolate the issue and point the root cause of the problem. Let's hope that it's not a problem with the power supply or motherboard.

Dell optiplex 210l mini-tower video card upgrade

Before upgrading a video card, it's strongly recommended to check the wattage specification of the power supply unit. If the installed power supply unit can cater the need of the newly installed video card then it can be used normally.

You may refer to the user manual of the Computer to check the wattage specification or the Power supply unit(PSU) or directly open the tower to check for the printed value on the PSU itself.

Dell optiplex gx280 won't boot up

you either have the boot priority in the bios off or you have improperly cabled your hard drive . perhaps you set it to boot to cd while installing the operating system and forgot to change the order back.
The floppy drive does not have to be present for the system to boot (if set to "not installed" in bios)
your boot devices are your cd/dvd rom and your harddrive.
Seeing as you've recently replaced the power supply , ime assuming you didnt dismantle the whole computer , just the power leads coming from the power supply, which means you only moved power , not data cables.
This would be the first thing to check -- power to the harddrive and cd rom, the 4 pin connector that sometimes connects to the motherboard and any data cables you might have bumped while changing the power cables. check these things and post here again.
Regards

Repair psu for gx280

I have had several issues with this same problem, you may need a new power supply, because your old one may be failing and may need replacement.

My solution to this problem is that you may need to buy a need psu. I recommend either calling dell or buy a new psu.
