    Hi; if you are still noticing the Toshiba notebook PC is not charging, ensure this little list of things is addressed, and see if one of these things fixes the situation.

    Power adapter that plugs into the wall must be plugged into a good live wall outlet or a good live power surge protection strip that is switched on and any fuse reset switch is in the operating or reset position, not in an off condition.

    Any connection at the brick, at the power converter block must be completely properly fully connected. Any other joints or intermediate connections must be fully connected. Please see if the converter has a little light or LED bulb bump to see if power is reaching the converter block. Even if there is no indicator, you may feel the converter if it has been plugged in for a while, and if it is still cool, likely no power is reaching this converter. If it is warm because of the electricity action in it, then even without an indicator light or bulb or LED, you may be able to go on to the next stage. If this is still under warranty, it is appropriate to contact the manufacturer via an 800 number that you can get by calling 1-800-555-1212 or looking for the technical support number using a computer that is working. For Toshiba, the technical support number for this kind of problem, a possible power converter replacement for a Satellite notebook PC, is 1-800-457-7777. Is the computer still new, under warranty?

Battery wont charge

Unfortunately with a computer that old, the battery will stop working correctly and will no longer hold a charge. The only way to fix this issue is to buy a new battery. You can get them from Toshiba, but I would do some searching on the web first. You might be able to get it cheaper from another site.

My battery charges but only lasts about 20 minutes once it says it is fully charged. Just purchsed a new battery thinking it was old (laptop is about 3 years old) and the same thing happens.

From what you describe and assuming the new battery was "new", I'd say you have an internal short which is draining the battery over a short period of time. I'd also investigate the accuracy of the battery charge indicator. Download this free utility which will give you a more accurate picture of your battery:

I'm assuming you gave the battery a "commissioning charge" when you bought and used it?
If not, this is something you should do with all new LI batteries. This bit is reproduced from a website that sells batteries for the Toshiba satellite series:

"2. The new Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack needs to be circled (fully discharged and recharged) three to five times to reach its optimum performance.
3. Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery will undergo self-discharging when left unused for a long period of time. Thus, it should always be stored in a fully charged state and kept in a cool, dry and clean place.
4. It is normal if the new Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery gets warm when being charged or used. However, please pay special attention if the battery pack becomes excessively hot. This may indicate there is a problem with the charging circuit of the electronic device. Please consult a qualified technician if necessary.
5. To maintain the optimum performance of Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack, it is highly recommended to circle (fully discharging and recharging) it at least once a month.
6. New batteries are hard to be charged. Sometimes, your electronic device may indicate a fully charged condition about 10 to 15 minutes when Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack is being charged for the first time. When this happens, remove the battery pack and let it cool down for about 10 to 15 minutes then repeat the charging procedure. Sometimes, the new Satellite a205-s4777 battery will suddenly refuse to be charged. If this happens, a suggested solution is trying to remove the battery from the device and insert it again. "

My Toshiba satellite L455 is not charging battery. It sometime say charging but when i unplug then it says unknown battery time. It suddenly goes off.

Hi, I think its time to get a new battery. After some time the battery will not take a charge anymore.
(internal discharge) Replace with new one.
Thats why you are having trouble.

Battery not charging properly after being on mains supply for enough time to be at 100%. once off mains supply, battery charge is only 10-15% so lasts about 10mins

It's time to either replace the battery:
* if it's still under warranty, get it replaced;
* buy a new one from Toshiba;
* buy a compatible one via ;

or to find a company that will:

* receive the battery that you shipped to them,
* disassemble it,
* replace the rechargable cells,
* reassemble it,
* ship it back to you.

Here is a manual....mostly replacement parts etc.

Sounds like your battery is shot, bad or discharged or shorted batteries will shut the charging circuit off.

Excessive heatup

Most likely you will need to replace your battery. Adapter seems to work fine since it can charge battery up to 12%, but the battery itself cannot charge more than 12%.

Battery replacement is inevitable.

you may have a faulty motherboard connection, but try connecting the power adapter in without the battery and see if it runs, then replace the battery back in the compartment.
