Question about Fuji ASK-4000 Thermal Photo Printer

8 Answers

Well, am I in now? It must be easier to hack into the Pentagon ! I tried the Fuji website which sends me around in circles. This website has given me a few bum steers as well ! Not everyone has a degree in computer science. I suspect those who use this site are less computer-literate - like myself. Here we go again: I have a Fuji Pictography 4500. Shortly after buying it (used) Fuji discontinued supplies (vendor forewarned ? I am not sure). But it is capable of delivering superb prints so I wanted to keep it in use. After a long wait I managed to lay my hands on a (last) supply of paper, donor and water filters. I had to move office. The printer was driven by an ancient Apple. I was never really au-fait with it and cannot remember how to operate it. I want to install driver to run it on my PC. This is not connected to internet (to prevent virus infection). I use it mainly for photo editing and printing, It already drives my Epson 7600 and Canon i9950. My e-mail comes via a Linux system. I am of a generation that refers to a computer as a "confuser". The Linux OS was installed by my son who lives in Glasgow. Can you help me: I need a driver that I can download, transfer to a memory stick or portable HD and install on my Windows PC. I also need clear instructions on running the system. Thanks Find a driver I can download

    Hello "Ginko",
Thank you. I downloaded the drivers on my portable HD, now have to try and see if it will work on the PC.
Can you confirm it is the version suitable for the Pictography 4500 ?
My request came up with the header for an ASK 4000. I believe that was another (later ?) version ?
I do not know why the "system" changed my model. I did not find the Pictography in the listed models, the ASK 4000 seemed the nearest version. I did change it, though.
That is one reason why I still call this machine a "confuser" !

  • rudy182 Nov 15, 2010

    Hi "Ginko",
I looked up product info for the ASK-4000. This is a totally different machine, so I really doubt that the driver you sent me will work.
Having tried Fuji's website again, this did not get me anywhere either. This is what I have against computers and websites: Unless the problem can be pre-packed in a format acceptable to the machine (or it's software), there seems to be no way to contact the people who can help.
Trying to install the drivers, listed on the Fuji site I get an "error" message telling me that the information cannot be found.
There is no effective info about how to contact them. It directs me to "outside USA" and that does not seem to work, either.

So my question remains unanswered: Where can I get (download) drivers for my
    Fuji PICTOGRAPHY 4500

    NOT an ASK 4000 !

    Thanks again !

  • rudy182 Nov 15, 2010

I need a driver for a Fuji PICTOGRAPHY 4500. My question was mistakenly listed as concerning an ASK 400 which was answered by Ginko. Sorry, his reply was correct but I think for the wrong machine.
Fuji does not give me the answer, either.
Anyone able to get me a driver for my PICTOGRAPHY 4500 which I can download, save on an external device and install on my (Windows)PC?

Thank you for your effort but this STUPID FixYa website keeps listing my printer as an ASK 4000 thermal printer.

I do not have an ASK 4000 (!"(

Thank you for your 2nd solution. This is Fuji's link which I have tried many times before. It would SEEM to be the correct link, it even lists drivers but I always get an "error" when I try to download it.
Thanks for trying but Fuji sucks !

  • rudy182 Nov 15, 2010

    ftw1952
Thanks for your efforts but I am getting nowhere.
The link into Fuji's own website is bringing me on to a list of drivers. It appears to give a list of drivers. I have tried it before asking "FixYa" to help, but if I try to download the ones I need I just get an "error" message. There seems to be no easy access to a Fuji agent by e-mail.
Fuji aparently has abandoned the customers who are (or were) still operating a Pictography.
When introduced, this machine was able to deliver a print quality that blew all other printers away.
It also was a very expensive machine, it cost over $ 10.000 new. The print, if I hold up a photo printed on the Pictography and compare it with a photo printed on another machine, still stands out.
As it did not use ink or dye it was delivering "museum" quality prints, supposed to last over 100 years without fading. These qualities had made me decide to keep using it until my supplies of donor and paper run out. Without a driver it starts looking like a lame duck !
The lack of support from Fuji will be a major factor in deciding what make of printer (all other factors presumed equal) I will buy if it comes to choosing a replacement. My Epson is due for replacement next year, perhaps even earlier. I am getting excellent support from them for my ageing 7600.
    Regards,
    Rudy

    ftw1952,
I am going around in circles.
    - FixYa seems to insist that I have an ASK 4000 printer. I have tried several times to change this.
    MY PRINTER IS A PICTOGRAPHY 4500 !!!!!
    - The site you recommend also refers to the ASK and seems, again, to give me a bum steer.
Thanks for trying to help, but DOES ANYONE ACTUALLY READ MY QUESTION or are you guys just following electronic prompts ?

I HATE COMPUTERS !!!! Is that abusive ? I don't think so as it is nothing personal !

    ftw1952
and others who are trying to help:
Thanks very much but I tried it all, no good !
Fuji Ireland could not help me either, they also referred me to the same USA website.
Hence my earlier rather negative comment about Fuji. I do realize that the machine (Pictography 4500) is no longer current but why do they keep posting a list of drivers if they have pulled the actual link ? It would not have cost hem anything just to leave the info for the few who still use their equipment.
It certainly does not endear me to Fuji nor to their long term commitment to customers.
Also, the website does not give any link nor does it list an e-mail address to contact Fuji directly. There must be people who still use this machine !
My Epson is also an ageing printer but I can get full support from them or appointed agents.
That will be a deciding factor when it comes to replace equipment.
    - I just bought a new scanner. Guess what make ? An Epson V750 (of course !)
    - I am negotiating a contract to do large size prints for a very discerning customer. If I get the business, I will have to buy a new printer. Guess what make and model if I go ahead? Of course, an Epson. Possibly an 11880.
    - Fuji lays claim to producing high quality and very capable digital SLR cameras. But I will not exchange my (Canon) equipment for Fuji !
It is a pity, the Pictography is still capable of producing prints of exceptional quality but Fuji may be well advised to look after their customers. Deciding on quality alone I might have chosen Fuji whenever I need new equipment !

  • rudy182 Nov 17, 2010

To all who are trying to help:
No, the "fujimusa.com" site does NOT give me the driver.
It would seem that Fuji has left the list but removed the driver I need.
Even Fuji Ireland could not help me. Added problem is that Fuji seems to be quite coy about adding a link or e-mail address to contact them directly.
The Fuji person I talked to suggested that I might have to write a letter to Fuji USA or send a fax.
This all leaves me very scaptical about Fuji's commitment to their customers.
It would seem that all I can hope for would seem that someone who still has the driver (Windows XP) will allow me to download it via e-mail.
Thanks for all the suggestions, guys ! But none has worked so far.

  • rudy182 Nov 20, 2010

    Lee,
Thank you very much but I am getting the impression that the experts do not really read my comments.
I have been recommended this link, which accesses the Fuji USA website.
It certainly does list all the information I need, but if I try to download itg I get an error message telling me that the requested information was not found.
I have replied to all the guys who have been trying to help me and given this same reply.
Even when I called Fuji Ireland by phone I was told to try the USA website. When they themselves , on my request, tried to download even the local Fuji people were unable to access this specific information.
So I am going around in circles, getting nowhere.
I still have about $ 1500 worth of donor and paper in stock, as well as spare water filters but after a move of office (I was in a part of a business park which was being converted into residential units and was given space in another building which still is having commercial tenants), the ancient Apple which drove the printer gave up the ghost . The print quality of the Pictography is very high. The machine itself is in perfect condition, I keep it running to ensure it will not seize. I am very reluctant to chuck it out with all the consumables. In the present business climate I cannot afford to write the lot off just like that !
    Regards,
    Rudy

  • rudy182 Nov 20, 2010

Thanks to all the guys who tried to help. But everyone is giving me the same solution and it DOES NOT work:
    Problem:
    Location Dublin, Ireland.
    Fuji Pictography 4500.
Driven by a very old Apple.
Soon after I bought it 2nd hand I discovered that Fuji was discontinuing supplies of consumables.
I was very impressed with print quality (previous and still owned: Canon i9950) and decided to chase last supplies of donor, paper and a few spare water filters.
During the summer they were delivered (cost about $ 1500).
I am in a business park which has lost many commercial tenants. The existing tenants are now all in one building, the other one has been converted into residential units. I was moved to the other building. After the move, the old Apple did not funtion anyh more.
I can not afford to write off the Pictography AND the consumables. Besides, the print quality was superb.
I am in need of a driver for this machine to run on a Windows XP PC.

Everyone (including Fuji Ireland)is telling me to log onto the Fuji USA website.
This site DOES list the driver but when I try to download I get a message telling me "error" and the information is not found.

So please do NOT refer me to the Fuji site.
It has been tried many times already without success !

    Thanks,
    Rudy

    NO NO NO NO NO.

The "system" is calling my printer an "ASK 4000". I have been unable to change it, but if you read my question and other replies I CLEARLY refer to a PICTOGRAPHY 4500 !!
I cannot help feeling that nearly every expert FAILS to READ MY QUESTION properly !!
They all seem to respond to the WRONG CAPTION without bothering to read the rest properly !!!

I do appreciate your attempt to help but it does not get me any further !

  • rudy182 Nov 22, 2010

Is there any kind expert who will READ my problem before wasting his / her time (and mine) by giving me the wrong reply or directing me to solutions I already tried ?

My printer: it is a Fuji PICTOGRAPHY 4500.
When listing my problem, I searched for my printer and found "thermal printer".
The "Fixya" system assigned me the listing as being an ASK-4000. MY PRINTER IS NOT NOT NOT an ASK 4000, it is a

    PICTOGRAPHY 4500

I was unable to change the caption. As a result, even after receiving many suggestions to solve my problem the experts still seem not to read my question in full.

As any good teacher will tell his or her student when sitting a test, not reading the question properly will inevitably lead to the wrong answer (RTFQ !)

    So my problem is:
    I have a FUJI PICTOGRAPHY 4500
It still is able to deliver prints of a fabulous quality.
Fuji discontinued supplies of consumables earlier this year.
I managed to lay hands on a last batch and spent about $ 1500 on donor, paper and spare filters.
Due to circumstances, my landlord made me move my studio twice. First to allow a reduction in rent, recently to allow redevelopment within the complex.
My printer was driven by an ancient Apple.
This has not survived the 2nd move.
I now want to install a driver for the

    PICT0GRAPHY 4500

    on my Windows XP PC.
I have been unable to find anyone who can help me.

The Fujiusa website does list the driver, but when trying to download it it seems they have pulled the actual driver from their website.

I live in Ireland. I called Fuji. They directed me to the same (USA) site. When I asked them to see if they could download it for me they also discovered that they were unable to do so.

Is there anyone who has access to and can put the driver on the web ??

    Thanks

  • rudy182 Nov 26, 2010

Sorry guys, thank you for trying but NOBODY seems to read fully my question.
If you did, you would have seen that I already received (and tried ) this same solution at least ten times over.
I simply get the same result every time:

"Sorry, the requested page has not been found"

So it seems either there is no solution or nobody is prepared to fully read my problem.
It would seem that the only way out is if someone who still has the driver is prepared to download it on a CD and mail it to me (I am quite prepared to pay for it !):

I appreciate your attempt to help, but perhaps someone can be a bit more creative ?

  • rudy182 Nov 26, 2010

Please read ALL my comments before rushing to send me a solution that

    1. I have been given by at least ten other experts,
    2. Does not solve my problem.
    3. Refers to the printer I do not have, a model that seems to doom well-intended efforts. The wrong model is listed and I seem unable to correct it !

Need: A printer driver for Windows XP.

Make and model: A Fuji Pictopgraphy PG4500.
So please note: NOT NOT NOT an ASK 4000!

I tried many times over: a link via Fuji's USA website. This would SEEM to be the solution, but each time I try to download it I get the reply:
"Sorry, the requested page can not be found" (or something to that effect).

Reason: I bought the machine 2nd hand with only a very small amount of donor and paper remaining.
When trying to order new consumables I found that Fuji had just ceased production and restricted last remaining supply to already placed orders(seller claims he was unaware of imminent drying up of supplies).
After nearly 6 months I managed to lay hands on last supplies.
I had to move office. The computer that was driving the printer was an ancient Apple Mac that did not survive the move.
The print quality of the Pictography is excellent. Besides, I now have too much money invested (supplies cost me around $ 800) so I need a driver for my current computer which runs under Windows XP.

It seems that the only realistic chance to put the printer back to good use is to find a good Samaritan who has such a driver and is willing to mail me a copy on a CD.
I will gladly pay for it !

    Thanks,

Does anyone ever take the trouble to actually READ my problem ? IN FULL ?
Fuji seems to have removed the link, only the reference is still there.
You guys are very nice and helpful but
THIS F.... NG WEBSITE DOES NOT WORK ANY MORE !
I have even contacted international Fuji offices.
According to one Fuji-employee, a Mr. Splinter, the site has probably been re-arranged and Fuji has not reinstated the link. Where it went ? he does not know.
So when I try to open the link it just tells me "sorry page not found".

What is the point asking for a solution and describing the problem at length and in detail if the experts grab the first solution WITHOUT BOTHERING TO READ THE PROBLEM IN IT'S ENTITY !
I give up. I wasted my money. Now "FixYa" is wasting my time !
Anyone interested in a supply of donor, paper and waterfilters for Fuji Pictography PF4500?
    New. Boxed, unopened.

You can download the drivers for windows 2000/xp at the following link. If you have vista or windows 7 you will need a computer with 2000 or xp as the printer is not compatible with vista or 7.

    Hi Sir!

This is Alpug, my first suggestion leads you directly to your Fuji Pictrography 4500 driver and installation manual.

Click the link to go to the list. Select one and click.
The driver can be found on the right side of the window and below it is the instruction manual for installation.

Hi,

I have found the correct driver for Pictrography 4500 but it is only for upto Win XP. Further development cannot be guaranteed.

To visit the site, click here. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you should see 2 links to the right like this one. Well, am I in now? - adnanbhatti_3.png

Download both the driver and manual. For installation instructions, you can trust your knowledge. Its that simple really.

If you have any problem during install, try installing the driver first and study page 26 of the manual (Adobe reader required). Its much detailed with photos. And when unsure use default options.

Although I have double checked the links and they appear to be working. If you have any trouble downloading the files, let me know and I will download and upload them to rapidshare where you can download easily.

If my post has helped you, you may accept my solution.

Thank you.

Seems that your ISP is the reason you could not access the website. Please reply back and I shall respond promptly.

Here are all the official drivers for your Pictrography 4500.
http://www.fujifilmusa.com/support/ServiceSupportBrowse.do?prodcat=652938&sscucatid=664260
s you can see only old versions of Mac an Windows are supported, no Linux, so you must have one of them. For compatibility and ease of use i recommend XP. Since you don't have the pc connected to the internet you must download the driver in another pc. For that download (as in Save, not Run) one of the XP drivers sets ,the ones that corresponds the way your printer is connected - SCSI or or LAN : 4 +13 or 14 + 15. You might need also the Photoshop plugin for SCSI : 12. Then move the installers on a memory stick, plug the stick in the isolated pc and run them. That is all.
BTW supplies are still available

Hi Rudy.

I understood that the files needed are for Windows, not for Linux.

I published the two links to direct download pages for Windows drivers for this printer below.

All you need to do is clicking on the link and saving the file into your computer documents.
The file is in Zip format. Do not extract files in the Linux PC. Copy the file into the USB memory stick, transfer the file to the Windows computer and extract the file in Documents.
Take note of the location where you extract the files. The installe comes with instructions in PDF format. Installing is quite straightforward by the way.

Here links to drivers for Win 7, 2K, XP and Vista.

If the problem was instead installing printer on Linux, please let me know the Linux version.

Regards.

Ginko.

    Hi.

I was having a coffee. This is not a chat.

By asking to more experts you refused my help and involved more experts. Involving other experts usually results in some of us wasting his time.I will still give you an answer even if my help was not welcome.

The pictograph is SCSI. That means that the computer must have a SCSI adapter installed. Ensure that you have the driver for the SCSI adapter. There are also no Vista or 7 drivers for the PG4500.

Here the drivers for Windows XP.

    Regards.

My hotmail account has apparently been hacked, so microsoft blocked it.i tried to unblock it by verifying some of the account info but i didn't remember all of the info so nothing happened.

This sounds fishy from the start. How would Microsoft know if someone hacked your email account? As far as I know, MS don't go around detecting hacked accounts and closing them down.
Secondly, what info were you verifying, where and to whom?
Sounds like you might have accidentally given all your personal details to a phishing scam email pretending to be from MS.
If you still have time, go to the hotmail website and click I cannot get access to my account and try to use the zecondary email address to retrieve your password. Failing that, you can maybe answer the secret question you setup.
