Not always, next time send the model number, open the door and look around the opening of the dryer and you'll see a tag with the model and serial numbers, just need the model,it will start with 110. or similar,if the filter is on top then unplug the dryer and then slide out the dryer, remove the lint filter and the back panel and you'll find all the parts in the rear,if the filter is inside then all your parts are up front, also depending on the model number on some machines there's an even heat board and relays in the top console that can be bad but i don't think you have this, with a meter read out the heater, and all the thermostats on the heater box and check the thermal fuse located on the blower wheel housing, when checking any part you have to remove at least one of the wires or you won't get the right reading, when you find the part that's bad call your parts store, give them the model number, tell what part you found that was bad and they will sell you the correct part, good luck and let me know how you make out

most of the time i check the thermal fuse located on the blower wheel housing,it's white and has two wires coming off of it,if filter is on top it's in the rear,if the filter is inside then all the parts are up front,if the fuse is good then if it's gas look to see if the ignitor is glowing,if it is then you have bad gas coils or a bad gas valve,if it isn't glowing thn you could have a bad sensor or the ignitor is bad.one more thing the ignitor could still be bad if it's glowing,it works by amps,it should have 3.5 amps but if it's glowing most likely it's good,if it's electric then check all the thermostats on the heater box and the heater, when you read the parts out,the dryer should be unpluged, and at least one wire has to be removed from the part you are checking,if all these parts read good then you have a more serious problem with the timer or the motor but usually it's not,it's usually from not cleaning out the dryer and the high limit thermostat or the thermal fuse go,if it's clean then it will be the ignitor if it's gas or the heating element if it's electric,i hope this helps you and points you in the right direction to fix your dryer

If this is the electric version then after 15 years you probably need a new heating element, they are not difficult to install and are not terribly expensive as a DIY project.

Check your dryer venting for obstruction.  Take the vent hose off and run the machine,  If it works with the venting disconnected, It is between your wall and the outside of the house.  If it still has the same problem it is somewhere in the exhaust.  If the dryer can't circulate air, nothing will dry.

If this is a gas dryer, the rattling noise you hear is usually an indication of the gas valve coils failing on the burner assembly. Your dryer will normally have two of them. One is the main coil, and the other is a pilot position coil. It is recommended that you replace both of them at the same time (usually sold as a set). Searspartsdirect.com carries your parts. Just type in your model number and look under the "Burner Assembly" heading. For comparative shopping, repairclinic.com may also carry your parts. Sometimes at a cheaper price. If this is not a gas dryer, please post back with your model number, so I can assist you better. I hope this helps answer you questions.

Your thermostat could have problem and it confused the temporature inside the dryer. You should change the thermostat. To make sure you can use VOM (vol-amp-milimeter) device to check it. If it reads 0, it means OK. If it reads another number, it is faulty and need changing a new one.
Good Luck

Kenmore 70 Series

You probably have an open thermal fuse, the dryer will run in some cases and not heat, Just moving air across you clothes will dry them however it takes forever.

If you are electrical or mechanical replace the thermal fuse yourself if not call someone you trust, you can purchase thermal fuses on line from Sears.com just do a parts search for you specific dryer.
