I bought Hp 2230s laptop, I setup Bios pass then have phone call. I come back and foregot it. Please helpme recover my Bios as default.

There are many circumstances that can create a blinking cursor.

First, check the laptop and make sure that there are no extra devices plugged into it, and that there are no CD/DVDs in the optical drive. Then, unplug the power cord and remove the battery. Then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power in the laptop. After that, plug back in just the power cord (leave the battery out) and try to turn the system back on.

If it goes to the blinking cursor, power the system back off. You'll need to boot up into the BIOS now and reset the BIOS defaults. To get into the BIOS on that computer, you will need to start it up - and when you see the very first screen, there should be a message to press ESC to enter the setup. Press the ESC key a few times when you see that message and then at the menu press F10 to enter the BIOS Setup. Once you are in the setup, use your arrow keys to move to the option for Load Setup Defaults. (That option might be under the Exit area.) Then after you've loaded the defaults, make sure to save changes and exit. Try to boot up again. If it still brings you to a flashing cursor, then we need to try to run the diagnostics on the computer.

To get the computer to run diagnostics, try pressing the F2 key during the first screen when the computer turns on. If the diags run and the hard drive passes, then you'll need to look at running the F11 recovery at startup. The F11 recover will erase all of the files on the computer and restore it to the factory default - so be aware that this is a last effort solution.

If you need to have data recovered off of the computer, you will need to take it to a certified technician who can remove the hard drive from the laptop and pull the data off of the hard drive via a slave system.

If the hard drive fails the diagnostics, you will need to contact HP for a replacement disk. You can get that process started by calling HP at 866-234-1377.

Quintero1970 I would like to have more information before proceding. If this is truely a bios issue you can try to flash your bios(only if you know what you are doing) or you can take the laptop to your local computer store.

In case of your HP laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

If you have recovery cd with your HP laptop just recover, coz HP laptop has recovery file in your hard disk to to recover to factory default. if no use bootable os like XP, VISTA and WIN 7are bootable just setup your bios setting, go to boot and setup your cd rom as your first boot so that it will automatically boot to your OS on the cd. and follow the rest of the instruction to setup.

Remove the cmos battery from the motherboard for about 5 seconds, replace & reboot. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
